Apart from the iPhone 3G S and iPhone 3.0 which were showcased at the WWDC yesterday, there is also now a new MacBook Pro lineup. Aluminum unibody as you will probably have guessed, the MacBook Pro family will include 13-inch, 15-inch and 17 inch.
Improved features include 40% extended battery life, thanks to their lithium polymer built-in battery technology that can gest out a minimum of seven hours of work on a single charge. LED backlit displays will give better colour, multi-touch trackpad, an illuminated keyboard and guess what a new SD card (13 and 15-inch) or ExpressCard slot (17-inch), FireWire 800 port and new NVIDIA graphics display.
If you were following us with the WWDC live yesterday you will notice not much was mentioned about this. That’s because internet tethering with the iPhone 3G and the new iPhone 3G S will ultimately vary according to the network provider in your country. For those not so familiar with what internet tethering is, it basically lets your laptop / netbook / computer use the internet via the iPhone’s 3G connectivity.
iPhone 3G S, that’s the name of the new 2009 iPhone we’ve all been looking forward to. S stands for Speed! If you weren’t following us with the live blogging of the WWDC 2009, Phil Schiller has now officially announced the latest iPhone. While having said that the iPhone 3G will still remain on the market, its hoped that the iPhone 3G S will become the most popular camera and video mobile phone to come.
So what will be the specs and features? Many of which were already known through rumors in fact. To be released in black and white, the latest iPhone 3GS will be equipped with a three megapixel camera with autofocus, touch focus, no flash. 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, voice control is a new one, video recording / video camera will also boast editing function. Performance as you would imagine has been much improved with this new iPhone, battery life has also been given a massive boost, with video playback for example now supported for up to ten hours and talk time up to 12 hours on 2G. Also as rumored was a built in compass function, the new iPhone 3GS will of course arrive with iPhone 3.0.
iPhone 3.0 will officially be available to all on June 17th. It will be free for all iPhone customers to update to, while it will cost $9.95 for iPod touch users.
Update (08062009): We’re blogging the WWDC live now!
This is very exciting news everyone, even before the WWDC gets on the way more images relating to the upcoming iPhone 2009 have leaked. While many have been calling the next generation iPhone, the 2009 iPhone, it seems Apple may have prepared more than was first thought.
The above leaked picture comes from Dutch T-Mobile’s internal network and shows that in addition to black and white versions of the so called “iPhone 2009” which will have capacities of 16GB and 32GB, there will also be an “iPhone 3G 8GB Black V2”. What this actually means remain a mystery, with the WWDC just hours away, might this be covered at some point this afternoon?
Remy from The Green Room has done an excellent work rounding up all the possible rumored details we’ve heard of so far. The graphical image below is exactly what we’ve been missing, so folks, is this what we’re going to see next week at the WWDC?
Nice work Remy!
The below list is what many believe will be the specs and features of the next generation iPhone (the one which will come with new OS iPhone 3.0) to be announced at the next WWDC on July 17, this summer. A source has told the Apple iPhone Apps blog that the new iPhone will launch on July 17. Not surprisingly, much of the specifications fit in with past rumors that the device will introduce a digital compass and a video recorder.
What feels a bit shaky is that “the source” didn’t manage to leak any new photos of this “2009 iPhone”, full specs after the cut…
The news comes as no surprise to those in the UK because we have had these from O2 on a pay as you go basis for some months. But for those in the US this is quite a deal. Its believed that this is an attempt to clear out the old inventory of iPhone 3Gs before June when Apple will have their WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) and we presume that this is when Apple will unveil their next generation of iPhone(s) running the brand spanking new firmware OS 3.0.
