FAAST toolkit utilises Microsoft Kinect as PC game controller

On December 30, 2010, in Gaming, Geeky, by Mike Jefferson

Kinect is here, and despite its success, we’re more interested in Kinect’s technology underneath, its hacks and modifications than the games it plays. Today you’ll see how you can you use your Kinect with your PC and play games with Kinect as your controller.

World of Warcraft (WoW) on the iPhone? Yes, you read it correctly! This isn’t necessarily a new app for the iPhone though. What you see in the picture and the video below is actually WoW being streamed to the iPhone via the iPhone’s 3G connection. What we understand from this is that, the actual online game is running on the PC but with the help of Vollee, WoW can be successfully streamed and yes, played on the iPhone 3G. It looks like from the video, most features of the game can be played and the speed looks pretty smooth taking into consideration it is 3G.

World of Warcraft (WoW) Patch 3.1.1 is a small update to last week’s 3.1 patch. Patch 3.1.1 is going live today. The official patch notes have now been posted to the WoW forums.

You may have problem getting patch 3.1.1 to download. If you’ve converted to a battle.net account, you cannot download the patch via the traditional log-in-and-it’ll-start method. To get the patch to download, enter your old non-battle.net username and password and the game will begin downloading patch 3.1.1. It’s about 10-megs.

You can’t log-in and play the game with that user name and password anymore, but you can get the patch with it.

There are some in-game fixes for World of Warcraft (WoW) Patch 3.1.1. Some of the important changes include:

  • In order to address issues with the dual talent specialization system, all players will have their talents points refunded. Players who have purchased dual talent specializations will have both specializations reset. Glyphs will not be affected by this reset.
  • Characters who are not of the same race or class are once again able to view each others’ professions linked in chat.
  • The mob packs in the XT-002 Deconstructor encounter can now be engaged separately and are no longer linked.

Do you know someone who literally lives in the World of Warcraft? If so you may understand more than I do what this lad is saying without looking at the subtitles. Internet-speak is a language that’s getting more common among the younger generation, maybe in 50 years time we might have to start learning it in kindergarden, ah! Watch the video after the break.

Readers here at GadgetLite who are keen gamers of games like WoW will definitely have heard of the Wolfking Warrior game pad keyboard a simple, easy to use device ideal for first-person-shooter (FPS) games and possibly any game you can imagine that suits it style. The aim of the unique design is essentially to help enhance his or her gameplay experience. But the Wolfking Warrior is now old, because there is now a new one out called the Warrior XXTREME gamepad (you could take a look at the Wolfking Warrior review first though, at TechRepublic).

Compared to the old Warrior (red), the Warrior XXTREME is twice the bulkier (black) with an ergonomic design:

As you will see in the videos after the jump, it’s not the best keyboard if you’re not a serious gamer and want to use it for other purposes such as emailing, messaging, document processing. Plenty of shortcut keys which should be useful for online gaming. The back light I think has been really well thought out, it should prove to be welcomed for those who game late into the night (and morning!) while everyone else is already asleep.

Geeky WoW joke: Marksmanship in arenas?

On September 9, 2008, in Featured, Geeky, by KLS

Just a few days ago, we were just chatting with Hojimoto about the cult of geeks nowadays and how difficult it is to explain to someone who has no idea about the many terms we use almost unconsciously in our daily language here at the blog.

This little joke shows a conversion between two men at a dinner table, though it involves no strange language or anything, it just illustrates what a geeky conversion is commonly like! Click to enlarge…
