Like turn by turn navigation, Google’s latest offer – Transit Navigation (in beta) brings GPS guided stop-by-stop directions to over 400 cities around the globe. Using your location along the route, Transit Navigation will alert you when its time to get off at your destination or to make a transfer.
Transit Navigation does require your Android device to be 2.1+, make sure you hit update to get your Google Maps for mobile up to the latest version before trying it out.

How do you fancy being able to see the road on your Android phone sat nav app as you drive without having to worry about running into something or someone as you take your eyes off driving? This is probably one of the greatest advantages of having an augmented reality sat nav. Wikitude have announced the first beta of their augmented reality turn by turn sat nav application for Android smartphones.
We mentioned the N8 (N8-00) earlier last month, and now its been made official as Nokia’s first Symbian^3 handset, its been boasted as the latest flagship for the Finnish mobile maker’s new and improved Symbian OS.
If you can recall, Nokia first launched their free turn by turn Ovi Maps application to all of their users earlier in the year, however, one problem was that it didn’t extend its support to all potentially compatible phones. But now the good news has dropped for Nokia E71 and Nokia E66 users: you can now install the latest and free version of Ovi Maps on your phone!
If you haven’t read enough about free turn by turn navigation so far, here’s more. First it was Google and now, Nokia has unveiled its new free turn by turn Ovi Maps service for all compatible Nokia smartphones. This service is said to be available to all users globally. The emphasis by Nokia is “Free Navigation on your Nokia. For Free. For Ever.”
The Sony Ericsson X10, SE’s first Android phone shows in the video below that its not just the Motorola Droid / Milestone which will be able to take advantage of Google’s free turn by turn maps navigation application. The GPS / sat nav application by Google which first debuted earlier in October this year is increasingly becoming a threat to the likes of TomTom and CoPilot who have thrown themselves into the mobile app market.
What was first unveiled exclusively on the Motorola Droid is now available to the rest of the Android gang. If you’ve got an Android phone running version 1.6, you’ll be able to download the new Google Maps Navigation application for free off the Android Market from today.
