iPhone 3.0 has settled in quite well in my view and I am sure many have been more than pleased to see Apple finally give the iPhone features such as copy and paste, MMS, landscape mode typing, Spotlight search, push notifications and many more. But did you know that actually there are some “hidden” functions that weren’t announced?
You may have figured out some of them yourself already but there are actually quite a few of them. I wouldn’t like to call this a secret but rather just tips and tricks to using the new iPhone OS 3.0. Check out the full list after the break…
Apple yesterday released the latest version of their iPhone OS 3.0, now in Beta 3. Developers will now able to to get their hands on the new SDK via the developer’s page.
Though only available for iPhone and iPod Touch app developers, we can tell you what changes have been noticed so far:
- Obligatory performance improvements
- MMS now works on T-Mobile in Germany, if you modify the carrier bundle
- Spotlight now saves the last search
- Spotlight search options (Want to only search apps, or everything but music?)
- Minor UI tweaks
- iPod Touches can now change the function tied to double tapping the home button

Kevin Rose’s predictions may have been right for one of the new features but I bet he didn’t know so many were also going to be up for grabs on this new 3.0 OS update. In my view this long awaited update contains everything that Apple needed to put the iPhone back on top of all the rivalry thats been going on with other mobiles such as RIM’s Storm or the Palm Pre. There is no question that Apple is brilliant at supporting both new and existing customers, the update will be completely free to all iPhone users while there will be a tiny cost for iPod Touch users, but no doubt it will be worth it! We received some pretty cool LED flashlights from Spotlight last week. For those who have not heard of them before, Spotlights are 12V rechargeable led flashlights / torches, which charge using car’s cigarette lighter. It may be the solution when you need that bit of extra light in your car. For example, if you have dropped something under your seat and you are desperate to find where they were, on the other hand for emergencies, its good to have a torch handy and full of battery when its required.
