I’m a huge fan of Firefox and have been using it almost since it was first introduced, I like the add-ons, themes, its look and good stability, there’s also a huge community of people using it on the web as well. However, recently we talked about the Acid 2 test, a test which examines how well the browsers out there perform in terms of html and also css, etc… As you will remember, from the results, out of the six browsers that were tested, only Opera and Safari passed. The fact that Firefox didn’t pass didn’t really influence me that much at the time and I just kept using it, however, just yesterday I read that the latest Opera, Opera 9.5 beta2 actually out performs Firefox by a considerable margin.

Here’s what Opera does well:
- “Every page loads faster and this is something measurable even without having to use a stopwatch”
- Opera uses 30% less RAM when the same number of tabs are opened
- Visible wise, the scrolling page function in Opera is much more smoother when compared with other web browsers
- Opera’s built-in e-mail client features improved responsiveness
- Supports cutting edge Web standards and the upcoming web developer tools
- Syncs your bookmarks and Speed Dial between your computers and mobile phone
- A tiny minor feature is that the browser lights up tabs and query buttons, when you pass the mouse over them =)
This is a quick post to say that iPhone Dev Team have released 1.1 version of their Pwnage Tool. For those who aren’t too familiar with what it actually is, in a quick summary, the iPhone Pwnage tool can be used to flash your iPhone with custom iPhone firmware so that you can jailbreak it to install and run any of your favorite native iPhone application as well to activate and unlock your iPhone to use it in any compatible GSM networks.
So what’s new about this version 1.1? The latest version of the PwnageTool now features the ability to create custom firmware which was one of features missing when the Pwnage Tool was first released. And this time, Windows users won’t feel so left out because they will also get a Windows based version of the Pwnage Tool, aka winpwn… this was created by an iPhone hacker known as “cnw”. However, it’s said that the iPhone firmware 2.0+ support in this beta version of winpwn has been disabled and more work still needs to be done, “since it’s still buggy”.
The latest version of the PwnageTool includes support for pre-release iPhone firmware 2.0 beta (5A240d) and also includes the EDGE settings fix for iPhone 1.1.4 firmware.
The new feature of PwnageTool 1.1 are mentioned below:
- Added custom package support
- Added custom logo support
- Added auto delete of BootNeuter.app
Here’s the link to downloading the latest Pwnage Tool for Mac users…
And here’s the link you Windows users have all been waiting for!
Tame is a concept gadget that bosses around your other gadgets! It allows you to set an away message such as “I can’t answer your call right now, I’m busy” for your phone for example, this is then synced with all of your devices and applications so that you don’t need to do it manually yourself!

You can store messages on each face, and when you need to change your status, just rotate the cube to the desired face. Besides a written message, Tame uses a red-yellow-green color coding system to let people know at a glance if they can contact you.
Many blogs have been talking about it in the previous weeks and now it’s finally released. The iPhone Dev Team have released their secret jailbreak weapon the iPhone Pwnage Tool (also works for iPod Touches), as you would imagine what it does is jailbreaks your iPhone so that it will be able to install and run any of your favorite native iPhone application as well activate and unlock your iPhone to use it in any compatible GSM networks.
As the iPhone Dev Team describes, the Pwnage Tool involves two basic but clever components:
Pwner – tool to make your iPhone/iTouch “pwned”. You will have to use this tool just once.
IPSW Builder – by using this tool you will be able to modify the .ipsw filesystem, i.e. pre-jailbreak, pre-unlock, pre-activate, and create a complete custom .ipsw installation. In case you are already unlocked you can even tell it to disable the baseband update, just in case. Restore or Update from iTunes with custom .ipsw file.
In order to use both of those above all you need is an iPhone / Touch running firmware version 1.1.3 / 1.1.4, then use the iPwner tool to “pwn” your iPhone, use the IPSW builder tool to create a custom .ipsw installation which is jailbroken, unlocked and will come bundled with additional software which can then be used to restore or update your iPhone from iTunes to give you a jailbroken, activated and unlocked iPhone.
The iPwner and IPSW Builder are both very simple to use, available as simple buttons when you launch the iPhone Pwnage tool.
It is important to note here that before hacking your iPhone it is always a good idea to take a backup of your iPhone in iTunes so that in the worst case situation if things goes horribly wrong you can always restore the iPhone as if nothing ever happened!
As you will be aware from this post title, the Pwnage Tool for Windows users isn’t yet available, however, we know it is currently being developed at its later finishing stages and should be released in no time! Stay tuned!
Meanwhile, check out how the iPhone Dev Team uses their Pwnage Tool in this video:

It’s official! The latest N810 WiMAX which was much spoken about on many blogs earlier last month has now been confirmed at the CTIA in Las Vegas! It currently remains unpriced, but we do know for a fact now that it will be running the latest updated OS: OS2008, which features enhanced e-mail client, support for Chinese character rendering in the browser and RSS feeds as well as “Seamless Software Update functionality” to boot. The best is, once OS2008 is available, current N810 / N800 users will get to upgrade to the latest OS for free!

So what are some of the specs on the new N810 WiMAX? Well we now know for certain that it will have a whopping large 4.13-inch touchscreen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard (picture above). Also built-in webcam for video calls, Mozilla powered browser (Yeah!
), you can also use it as a sat-nav as it is equipped with integrated GPS / media player, 2GB of internal memory and a microSD expansion slot. Access to the internet can be done via WiFi or via conventional cellular data networks by pairing to a compatible mobile phone via bluetooth.
Almost every household computer would have a webcam these days, they’re great for chatting online and an excellent way to save on long distance calls too. But how many of you have a webcam from HP and not from Logitech? The answer I’m not 100% certain but I don’t think it’s that many, however, might this latest HP product capture your eyes?
The latest HP Elite Autofocus Webcam has some very outstanding features, though I don’t know about its pricing yet, it’s got functions that far exceeds the needs of any typical online webcam user.
With its 3-megapixel sensor, it is well equipped to produce qualities far beyond that of HD; also on board is autofocus, privacy cover and UVC for driverless install and 320-degree pan angle.
You can expect 30fps at VGA, but only 8 to 9fps at 1280×960. Then again, most ordinary persons don’t need more than 800×600 for video conferencing, and at this res, the webcam can handle at 20fps. There’s an effective focal range from 4 inches to infinity and an integrated stereo mic. Included with the Elite are ArcSoft VideoImpression, Magic-i and PhotoSmart Essential software. The low FPS concern aside, the HP Elite webcam goes nicely with the new breed of glossy black HP LCDs.
