Just a few days after we featured the next gen Zune Contact design concept by Adam Huffman, Microsoft’s rolled out the official next gen Zune, just a day or so before the Apple Event (hmm, let’s not go into that…)! Anyway, now that the specs have been officially revealed, let’s take a look…
While most users, including the PCs we use here at GadgetLite use Ad-Aware to avoid problems that often araise from spywares via the internet, there has also been an increasing competition for this type of utility from a number of other softwares, one of which is SpywareBlaster from Javacool Software. Probably one of the main reason is that its also free, lite in size (just 2.74 Mb) and that its received a number of good votes from users who’ve downloaded it (16,397,346 downloads via CNET alone).
Unlike a number of mainstream tools of this kind, SpywareBlaster is abit different, it’s more of a preventer rather than a scanner thus many would argue that it’s not as competent at doing its job than others…
SpywareBlaster doesn’t scan for and clean spyware–it prevents it from being installed in the first place. SpywareBlaster prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, dialers, browser hijackers, and other potentially unwanted programs. It can also block spyware/tracking cookies in IE, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, and many other browsers, and restrict the actions of spyware/ad/tracking sites.
One of the features that I do like is that it works with your system to create backups and makes sure these backups can actually be used when necessary…
SpywareBlaster also includes a System Snapshot feature, which lets you take a snapshot of your computer in its clean state and later revert, undoing many changes made by spyware and browser hijackers.
If you are looking for a video/audio converter which is fast, user friendly and compact in features, you may want to try Blaze Media Pro. Though it’s not a freeware, it is a powerful multi media programme which features conversion, editing, recording, burning, and ripping functions. Other features include DVD audio to MP3 conversion, WAV, WMA and OGG, video capture, joiner, compressor, media management audio and video playback. It also supports many files like MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG etc…
Here’s a quick screenshot…
The MOV converter is pretty easy to use with lots of optional features perfect for advanced users, you can easily convert a batch of MOV files to MPG. AVI and WMV formats with very little effort.
Here is another freeware we came across over the internet that I thought was quite useful and deserved a mention. It’s currently top ten in system utilities on CNET and it’s proven to be quite popular amongst advanced PC users, yes, unfortunately not for Macs.
SpeedFan is a program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. (click here to find out what S.M.A.R.T. means) info for those hard disks that support this feature and show hard disk temperatures too, if supported. SpeedFan also supports SCSI disks too.
At the lowest level, SpeedFan is an hardware monitor software that can access digital temperature sensors, but its main feature is that it can change fan speeds (depending on the capabilities of your sensor chip and your hardware) according to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing those unnecessary noise that fan of yours have been making!
SpeedFan can:
- handle almost any number of South Bridges
- handle almost any number of hardware monitor chips
- handle almost any number of temperature readings
- handle almost any number of voltage readings
- handle almost any number of fan speed readings
- handle almost any number of PWMs

Some Russian iPhone fans have replaced the regular, boring Apple logo on the back of an original iPhone with an eye-piercing, glowing version! When the screen is switched on, the logo will light up, it seems to be a matter of replacing the metal insert on the back of the phone with an LED equipped plastic one. Not entirely sure whether the brightness is controlled via any software though.
Here’s a list I thought it was very useful to have. Apple’s been releasing a new firmware almost every few months and with so much jailbreaking going on, it’s useful to have a backup and a point of restore handy just in case anything happens.
ust to let everyone know, the latest Pwnage Tool version 2.0.2 by the iPhone Dev Team is out and we’ve outdated our roundup post for jailbreaking firmware 2.0.1 for both iPhone first gen and iPhone 3G. Scroll towards the bottom of that post and you will find the latest update we’ve just inserted.
