We only spoke about it a week ago and now LG has officially announced their latest flagship – the LG Arena KM900 at the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona. I know some have been asking us when exactly the Arena will be available in the UK, we can now confirm that it will arrive very shortly next month! Meanwhile, we’ve got an official demo video of the new and very exciting 3D cube user interface (UI) for you to see right after the break.

jailbreak-iphoneIt seems Apple has been paying more attention than usual to iPhone users who jailbreak their iPhones in order to use third party cooler apps. Apple has reemphasised once again that jailbreaking an iPhone or removing the software impediments that keep out unauthorized applications is no different from breaking the law.

Here’s what Arik Hesseldahl from BusinessWeek wrote:

The statement was Apple’s first official comment on the practice of jailbreaking, which first emerged within days of the iPhone’s initial release in mid 2007. It came in response an effort by the Electronic Frontier Foundation to make the procedure exempt from prosecution under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. The EFF had argued that jailbreaking the iPhone should be protected under the principal of fair use. “There is no copyright-related rationale for preventing iPhone owners from decrypting and modifying the device’s firmware in order to enable their phones to interoperate with applications lawfully obtained from a source of their own choosing,” the EFF’s Fed von Lohman and Jennifer Granick wrote in their filing with the Copyright Office.

Apple argued otherwise in a response filing opposing any exemption. Jailbreaking an iPhone, it argues, destroys “the technological protection of Apple’s key copyrighted computer programs in the iPhone device itself and copyrighted content owned by Apple that plays on the iPhone resulting in copyright infringement, potential damage to the device and other potential harmful physical effects.” It also constitutes a breach of contract, Apple attorney David Hayes of Fenwick and West wrote.

Gallery: Amazon Kindle 2

On February 9, 2009, in Gadgets, Latest News, Technology, by Admin Staff

What a massive difference the new Kindle 2 makes when it is compared with the old Kindle. Not only does it have smooth sexy round corners but its also so much more thinner. The redesign of its keyboard also makes the new Kindle much more appealing, but I have to say the most attractive feature to me in terms of hardware is its further improved battery life. Yes I know the display is only grey and white, but you can still read four days non stop on it, that’s striking! Check out the hands on gallery after the jump…

News: Now official, LG Arena KM900

On February 9, 2009, in Cell Phones, Technology, by Admin Staff

lg-arena-km900-official-newsWhen we were sent the LG Renoir KC910 for some hands on review, we were already well impressed with LG’s ability to have made such major all round multimedia improvements in the new LG Viewty successor. But now it seems LG’s plans are official and they will be taking that even further for the coming 2009. As you will have heard, just last week, a picture of a new full touchscreen phone, the LG Arena KM900 surfaced. We can now be fairly confident that this is true and this latest flagship called the LG Arena will have some very stunning features and even more so, some features which have not yet even been seen on mobile phones (not that I know of)! The LG Arena will have a unique user interface that takes the form of a 3D cube. This new cube-based layout provides four customisable home screens for direct access to all features. This makes accessing music, movies, pictures much more easier than most phones, so if you thought the LG Renoir’s updated user interface already showed vast improvement, the LG Arena’s user interface will definitely strike you as something quite unique.

Though we don’t know all about its specs at the moment, this will be revealed in greater detail in due course – Mobile World Congress, February 16th at 2.00pm (CET). All we do know from our friends at the LG Blog is the below, though I wish I could find out more about whether its got an amazing camera sooner!

Citroen announced plans earlier last week to revive the DS nameplate for a line of mid-range premium models based on the new C3, C4 and C5. They decided that they could no longer wait for the Geneva Motor Show debut of the new Citroen DS3 and published a few images of the concept a few weeks early and rightly so I can understand why!

It’s too early at this point to tell you about the new Amazon Kindle 2 press conference, but it is to be held later today (10am Eastern time). The Kindle 1.0 has been around for some time it is definitely due for an update. If you don’t know much about Amazon’s Kindle device, one line can basically sum up the purpose of this device. It’s a lightweight, wireless device built for reading books, newspapers electronically on a purposefully built black and white screen.
