November the 9th is most certainly a day to mark into your schedule! That’s right, it’s finally confirmed, you may have been reading some of this news recently from our previous blog posts or off the news, but O2 has finally confirmed today on its site that they will be the sole carrier for bringing iPhone to the UK.
As well as this, Apple has also announced the same news on their site:
If you would like to know more about the version of iPhone that will be coming to the UK, I would recommend seeing the information provided by the Apple link above. Based on the quick look I had, it seems that the UK will not be the same as that which will be available in Germany by T-Mobile.
From previously leaked German adverts, their iPhone will be 16 Gb with HSDPA, what about ours? Ours will be a quad-band, running on 8 Gb but only with WiFi, EDGE and bluetooth 2.0 (see Apple iPhone specs). If the German rumours are true, then it seems our extra 8 Gb and 3G s’ been pitched…

Its finally been announced that O2 will be the single, exclusive carrier for the iPhone in the UK. We’ve all been waiting for a few months to confirm this news, with the choice of European service providers that are available, understandably this deal certainly wasn’t an easy one to close! It was said that the European carriers who have managed to close a deal for the iPhone had to even campaign for it via personal talks with Steve Jobs himself!
It is very clear that Apple has the intention to limit the iPhone’s sales and distribution to other countries as much as possible, O2 will be the exclusive carrier for the iPhone in the UK, while Orange will be the same in France, while T-Mobile for Germany. All three providers have agreed to share 10% of calls and data charges with Apple, while none of them will be able to subsidize these handsets to customers signing for the telephony contract.
As for now, it will not be until next year, before the Apple iPhone will be released in other European countries and Asia.

The UK mobile phone service provider O2 has been reported to soon be signing an exclusive deal to sell the Apple iPhone. This means the phones should be secured for sell in time for Christmas in the UK. However, as yet, no contracts have been offically signed. Although Vodafone had previously been thought to have secured their bid for this contract, Vodafone’s shares have recently fallen by 2.4%.
