PC case mod: Everything in a log!

On June 22, 2009, in Geeky, Laptops / Computers, by Admin Staff

Here’s a bit of geeky PC fun for you all this Monday morning. This particular modder had a rather different approach to case mods and decided to apply more creativity and build this “log computer”. All the gut components of a PC have been fitted into this wooden log which has been carved especially for it.

The finish looks elegant and is a fantastic piece of carpentry. Might I say, this log computer case mod is unlikely to overheat with so much open space! Check out the full gallery after the jump…

Geeky DIY: Typewriter computer keyboard

On June 15, 2009, in Gadgets, Geeky, by Admin Staff

Here’s something abit more radical to start you off with your week. Everytime we stumble over Instructables we find something great, this time we’ve found this geeky DIY which turned an old IBM electric typewriter into a fully working computer keyboard.

I certainly remember having one of these around the house when I was growing up but I never thought it would be of any more use since PCs came along. Maybe now is the time to get it out, instead of taking it down to the museum!

I have to agree with the creator of this genius project though, is it a typewriter that’s a computer keyboard? Or is it a computer keyboard that’s a typewriter? If you’re prepared to sacrifice your old antique then hit the jump and find out what you’ll need to setup this cool, geeky project.

The not too long ago Power Mac G4 Cube was an amazing computer of its time but what if it had legs (or wheels to be precise)? This cool geeky mod involves the combination of a G4 Cube and a Lego Mindstorm NXT kit making it the “Cube Bot”. Check out the clips after the jump, they are well entertaining!

Update (04/11/2009): Those who have 05.11.xx baseband but have not been able to use fuzzyband’s baseband downgrader due to various reasons including non-supporting bootloader version should have a look at a new unlock tool released for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS by Geohot. It’s known as blacksn0w, it will work for iPhones running the latest firmware 3.1.2 on baseband 05.11.07: http://www.gadgetlite.com/2009/11/04/blacksn0w-iphone-3g-3gs-os-3-1-2/

Update (28/09/2009): Those looking to downgrade the baseband version 05.11.07 from the new iPhone OS 3.1 update should read our guide: How to: Downgrade iPhone 3G baseband – 05.11.07 to 04.26.08

We reported about the possibility of downgrading the iPhone 3Gs’ baseband (which had been unexpectedly affected by the 2.2.1 firmware update) by using a tool from ModMyi called pHaseBanDowngrader a few weeks ago. Thanks to all those who

Most case mods that get featured online are usually very well done. As for this one, its been done so elegantly – its a complete disguise. The Samsung Eternity (A867), not really a popular phone known to many here in the UK is actually hidden on the underside of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) controller you see in the photo below.

If you hop through the jump, you’re see in the video that everything works perfectly fine (the phone that is!)…

Are there many Star Trek fans visiting this blog? I honestly don’t know. Nevertheless, this simple iPhone case mod, which I must admit haven’t seen many out there as yet looks interesting and would be neat to show off to friends. While I’m unsure what sort of reaction you would get, its probably going to be either great or absolutely boring. So if you’ve got a Star Trek federation pin lying around somewhere, you might like to give it a try :)
