We only spoke about this a few days ago, but the jailbreaking tool known as Spirit is now available for all users running Mac OS X or Windows. It is essentially a jailbreaking tool which will provide you access to Cydia and not an unlocking tool. Users will be able to use Spirit for jailbreaking the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch running OS firmware version 3.1.2, 3.1.3 or 3.2.

With the launch of Apple’s iPad 3G this week, most users will have been having one thing on their mind, is it jailbreakable / unlockable? As Geohot demonstrated shortly after iPad WiFi launched, it is indeed jailbreakable, it is just a matter of time when either Geohot or the iPhone Dev Team releases their magic to the public. In the video below, MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev used the “Spirit” jailbreak, a software that promises untethered unlocking of Apple’s recent devices, therefore its not just the iPad concerned but also iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G. The Dev Team has promised to release Spirit to the public soon.

Well this isn’t too surprising, jailbreak for iPad – done and dusted. Literally a day after its release, the iPad has been jailbroken by the iPhone Dev Team and can currently run an SSH server. The iPad which runs the iPhone OS firmware version 3.2 had a number of unpatched security holes before it launched and it turns out these flaws have now been released to the public. iPhone Dev Team were able to easily exploit this and jailbreak it using their existing iPhone 3.1.3 hack.
What you’re looking at below is possibly the first working, untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch third gen. According to jailbreaking expert Geohot, the jailbreak should be out soon and additionally, the boy genius believes that the iPad should be jailbreakable in the exact same technique, this renders the Apple iPad literally “jailbroken” when it comes out next Friday from day one.
Since Apple began accepting pre-orders for their new flagship tablet iPad in the run up to its launch on April the 5th, a new cat and mouse game between Apple and hackers have in fact been quietly underway.
Though the hacker Joshua Hill, otherwise known as P0sixninja who is a member of the Chronic Dev Team, claims to be working on an iPad jailbreak tool called Greenpois0n, he is in fact also appealing for donations so that he can actually buy one when it becomes available – how ironic?
While there is still some time to go before anyone will be able to get their hands on an iPad. Those of you who are already dreaming of having the new Apple device may start “pretending” that you have one. If you have the iPhone or the iPod Touch and have had it jailbroken, you can now change the theme / UI on your device so that it looks literally the same as that of the iPad which runs the iPhone OS version 3.2. In fact, if you go through the entire list we have provided below, your iPhone or iPod Touch will more or less function similar to an iPad as well!
