Well this isn’t too surprising, jailbreak for iPad – done and dusted. Literally a day after its release, the iPad has been jailbroken by the iPhone Dev Team and can currently run an SSH server. The iPad which runs the iPhone OS firmware version 3.2 had a number of unpatched security holes before it launched and it turns out these flaws have now been released to the public. iPhone Dev Team were able to easily exploit this and jailbreak it using their existing iPhone 3.1.3 hack.
While there is still some time to go before anyone will be able to get their hands on an iPad. If you have the iPhone or the iPod Touch and have had it jailbroken, you can now change the theme / UI on your device so that it looks literally the same as that of the iPad which runs the iPhone OS version 3.2. In fact, if you go through the entire list we have provided below, your iPhone or iPod Touch will more or less function similar to an iPad as well!
As we all gear up to the Apple event next Wednesday (27th Jan), most are already certain that we’ll be seeing Apple launch their first tablet Mac aka iSlate / iTablet. However, some are speculating that this isn’t all that Apple may be hiding. The latest rumor surrounding this suggests a brand new fourth generation iPhone 4G may be unveiled as soon as next week or this coming Summer. Its analysis by various sites differs at the moment but some believe there will be an iPhone 4G on the basis of the latest revealed shots of iPhone firmware OS in version 4.0.
So is it iTablet or iSlate now? Confusing isn’t it? No one is certain, but after it was revealed that Apple had bought the domain islate.com in 2007, many now speculate that Steve Jobs had been planning this all along and that the device we’re about to see will be called iSlate. I personally think the name iSlate is an awful name for a tablet and believe this is just coincidental that we find out about this just one month before we think Apple is due to announce their iTablet Mac – the date for this is thought to be 26th 27th of January.
