There have been plenty of non official apps released supporting online photo sharing sites such as Flickr but none have been official. The official Flickr app for iPhone just released can now be found from the App Store for free! The Flickr iPhone app allows you to share, and upload your photos and videos direct to Flickr.
If you thought your iPhone 3GS’ hardware encryption was safe, you better think again. Yes while many of us (including myself) have great faith and trust in Apple and their OS developers, what we’ve found on YouTube completely shatters our minds on the definition of safe security. The quick video below shows you how vulnerable the iPhone can be at times when Apple tells you that there is nothing to be worried about. Removing the passcode PIN and backup encryption from the iPhone is actually easy-peasy!
This is just a quick update for those looking to use the purplera1n jailbreak tool for iPhone 3GS running iPhone 3.0 who are Mac only users. The Mac version of Purplera1n by GeoHot has been released allowing you to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS which means if you’re interested in unlocking your iPhone 3GS, you can then do so by using ultrasn0w. The download link and all the things you need to be aware of can be found here…
Update (06072009): Purplera1n for Mac OS X released, works the exact same way, scroll down for instructions on use!
So far the iPhone Dev Team have been reluctant to release their jailbreak and unlock tool for the iPhone 3GS. Though the Dev Team says this is possible, they feel that iPhone OS firmware 3.1 which may soon be released will cause a rapid repeat of their cat and mouse game with Apple. So where is this non-Dev Team jailbreak method coming from? George or GeoHot says the following…
Normally I don’t make tools for the general public, and rather wait for the dev team to do it. But guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn’t worth waiting because you might have the “last” hole in the iPhone. What last hole…this isn’t golf. I’ll find a new one next week.
Though George did say the above, its important to note

iPhone 3.0 has settled in quite well in my view and I am sure many have been more than pleased to see Apple finally give the iPhone features such as copy and paste, MMS, landscape mode typing, Spotlight search, push notifications and many more. But did you know that actually there are some “hidden” functions that weren’t announced?
You may have figured out some of them yourself already but there are actually quite a few of them. I wouldn’t like to call this a secret but rather just tips and tricks to using the new iPhone OS 3.0. Check out the full list after the break…
Just heads up to all PC users that the iPhone Dev Team’s latest release of redsn0w is compatible with Mac OS X and PC. Redsn0w has very similar functionality to Quickpwn, it will jailbreak firmware OS 3.0 running on first and second generation iPhone, iPhone 3G, first and second generation iPod Touch but not iPhone 3GS – now also jailbreaks iPhone 3GS!
If you’re a PC user and haven’t been able to use Pwnage Tool for jailbreaking your device due to its Mac OS X specificity then redsn0w is definitely worth having a look at as it essentially provides the same outcome. For full details, check out our full guide.
Update (08/07/2009): Newest redsn0w now jailbreaks all iPhones and iPod Touches, this includes iPhone 3GS as well!
Just as we expected everyone, jailbreak and unlocking tools for iPhone OS 3.0 have been released. Only first generation iPhone 2G and the first generation both generations of iPod Touch running the new iPhone 3.0 can be jailbroken and unlocked at this point. It is now probably the only time in iPhone hacking history which we have tools available to jailbreak and unlock all devices, these include jailbreak and unlock for iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS. Jailbreak is also now fully successful for both generations of iPod Touch.
