Just launched recently are a range of brand new Sony VAIO ultraportable laptops and home entertainment PCs, by no means ultra affordable, and instead we would say on the high end close to luxury, the X Series carbon fiber bodied notebook is definitely worth a look.

The highly anticipated VAIO X Series is the world’s lightest notebook at just 655g, and measures 13.9mm thin making it breathtakingly slim. With an 11.1” X-black widescreen LCD and up to 16 hours of battery life, it is the perfectly balanced package for style-aware business travellers.

The all-in-one VAIO L Series with a high resolution 24” LCD touchscreen (never yet been seen on VAIO PCs) puts HD entertainment at your fingertips. The premium home entertainment PC has a chic, space-saving all-in-one design with intuitive fingertip control that allows you to enjoy your media collection with VAIO’s Media Gallery software.

Along with a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, the GT640 also features strong specs which has allowed the Taiwan-based company to temporaily claim the title as the world’s most powerful gaming notebook.

Onboard the GT640 is a NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M 1GB dedicated video card, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, up to 500GB of hard drive storage, and a built-in DVD burner or Blu-ray drive. Check it out, the Lenovo IdeaCentre Q110 Nettop is finally available for purchase at Lenovo’s online store. Lenovo are well known for shaping things up with a nice, smooth, glossy touch, there’s no exception for their new mini PC here. For mini PC fans who care for the outside just as much as the inside, I would say the Q110 certainly has its charms over the likes of Acer’s Aspire Revo per say.

Priced at $399, the Q110 is an ION-based nettop which offers a decent combination of hardware specs including Intel Atom 230 1.6GHz CPU, a 2GB RAM, a 160GB hard drive and Windows Vista Home Premium 64 OS. Connectivity wise there are four USB 2.0, HDMI, Ethernet and a headphone jack.

Just a quick heads up for those who have been waiting for the new 250GB version PlayStation 3 Slim to be available. Amazon UK has updated their site to display the 250GB PS3 Slim and let everyone know that they will be shipping from the first of October, which is next week!

Though the 120GB model PS3 Slim is already available for £245 with a choice of one free game plus an HDMI cable but for just £40 more, you’ll now be able to buy the console with twice the memory capacity though without a free game, we still think this is definitely a bargain worth considering. Hands on Sony DSLR Alpha 500 (A500)

On August 31, 2009, in Digital Cameras, by KLS

Last week Sony announced the launch of their next in the line Alpha series DSLR cameras, the Alpha 500 and 550 (see the press release after the break). To be out from the end of October this year, the DSLR-A550 and DSLR-A500 digital SLRs are based around new CMOS sensors with added manual focus confirmation live view mode using the main imaging sensor, in addition to Sony’s secondary-sensor Quick AF live view system.

Both cameras feature Sony’s better noise reduction, include an Auto HDR mode and offer sensitivity of up to ISO 12800. The 14.2 MP A550 features a higher resolution 921k dot 3″ tilt-angle LCD, while the 12.3 MP A500 comes with a 230k dot resolution 3″tilt-angle LCD.The pictures below are the first hands on photos taken with the Alpha 500 by the folks over at Pocket Lint.

Though stepped up and improved, I think its a smart decision for Sony to keep the tilt-angle LCD as I have personally found it too useful when I tested previous models myself. See more photos after the jump…
