Update (10/05/2009): There is now another tool to downgrade your iPhone 3G’s baseband.

Finally, at last! A baseband downgrade tool for iPhone 3G. Readers who are iPhone 3G users who unexpectedly and accidentally upgraded their iPhone 3G’s baseband during the iPhone firmware 2.2.1 update will be happy to know that ModMyi (not the iPhone Dev Team) have come up with a tool that claims to downgrade your iPhone’s baseband from 02.30.03 back to 02.28.00.

While back in February, the iPhone Dev Team did specifically release a Pwnage Tool for iPhone 3G users so

Its not just RapidShare download service delays that this wonderful, magical Firefox plugin can bypass, SkipScreen also works for other major file sharing sites like Mediafire, zShare Megaupload, DespoitFiles, Divshare, and LinkBucks, and we believe more are on the way. No, this plugin doesn’t enable your download to be faster, however it does enable you to get access to the file you need and start downloading faster, this sometimes can take a pretty long time. Its always so annoying when you want to download something from any of these sites that once you click on a file’s download link, you get taken through ads, human authentication, etc, that by the time you actually get to the ‘real’ download page, its taken minutes – that’s not right.

With SkipScreen, click on a file download link and SkipScreen will take care of things on its own, which means you can go back to doing what you were doing elsewhere and all you have to click on is the save file dialog box once it appears. No more waiting 20 seconds then click here and there, to find later on that you’ve missed the download time, skip all that!

ZumoDrive is a free app just recently released on the App Store which works in tandem with a downloadable desktop client (Mac OS X or Windows) to let you easily move and use files between your desktop, your laptop, and your iPhone. Unlike other apps on the App Store such as Air Sharing (which isn’t free), ZumoDrive does require you to install a lightweight free software on to your computer and requires that both your computer and your iPhone have access to the internet either via 3G, WiFi or EDGE in order for you to upload files (photos and music as well) onto the ZumoDrive server. But this isn’t too difficult, the free iPhone client supports both Windows and Mac OS X, you just need to choose the appropriate one. I suppose the major difficulty here is you’re also having to rely on ZumoDrive’s cloud for storage instead of storing files locally, but there are always good and bad views on this.

In terms of the user interface, once connected, your ZumoDrive will show up like another hard drive where you can easily drag files that show up almost immediately on other devices. What makes ZumoDrive unique is that it automatically understands not to store larger files on your iPhone, but gives you access to those files from the cloud. However, it’s important to note that the free version only allows you 1GB of space to work with, which was quite surprising to me as I would expect at least 5GB with so many large files that we need to deal with nowadays. Nevertheless the money will need to come from somewhere I suppose! Upgrading the plan on ZumoDrive to 10GB will cost $2.99 per month and so on. For most users who deal with just simple word or PDF documents, 1GB should be enough.

Check out ZumoDrive on the App Store here, or check out the ZumoDrive web.

google-earth-5The new Google Earth 5.0 has been out for about a week or so now, but for those who have never tried to use it may still not be convinced why you should download it (for free firstly!), try it and have a play with it. The new and updated Google Earth is probably the biggest library of knowledge (and fun) any free software has ever been able to offer. Yes, indeed there is now a Google Earth Pro that costs 400 bucks, but that is hardly necessary considering the amount of information and fun factor you can already get from the free version.

Google Earth 5′s biggest new features include the other final frontier, the 20th century, and the Red Planet: Mars. You can now go back in time, look at shipwrecks, and even track tagged marine animals, I don’t think this has been something that any other free software has been able to offer.

The iPhone Dev Team have now released their latest unlock tool for the iPhone 3G, though a tiny bit later than what they promised! The tool as you will know called yellowsn0w, will work with the iPhone’s latest OS update, firmware version 2.2 and in fact it requires that your iPhone be updated to 2.2 to run at all. Yellowsn0w is at the moment still in beta, version 0.9.4 (version has been updating constantly today!), which means it seems yellowsn0w isn’t absolutely perfect and everyone should use with 100% caution.
