To be launched later this week, we weren’t sent a YouTube demo clip of The Daily Digg. If you’re a fan of Digg, you might have heard of The Daily Scoop which is very similar in some sense in that it also displays top Digg stories like you would see in a real life newspaper, however, The Daily Digg looks alot more paper-like and it will be free to download. Google has said yesterday that it is planning to release its Chrome operating system, seen as Microsoft Windows’ upcoming greatest rival in fall 2010 completely free of charge. “We are working on bringing the device later this fall,” said Google vice president of product management Sundar Pichai at CompuTex Taipei, Asia’s biggest IT trade show.

Skype has just released a long awaited software update to their Apple iPhone app. The new version, 2.0.0, now supports 3G calling. Full improvements include:

  • Call using your 3G connection. Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G are free until at least end of August 2010, after which there will be a small monthly fee (operator charges for data will still apply).
  • Near CD-quality sound for Skype-to-Skype calls using wideband audio (SILK codec) on iPhone 3GS and 2nd generation iPhone touch.
  • Enhanced call quality indicator.
  • Improved start-up time.
  • Fast access to the dial pad from iPhone home screen.

MeeGo Linux is the latest custom made, lightweight operating system especially designed for netbooks, smartphones, and other internet-connected devices such as tablets. Today MeeGo v1.0 was released, and this video provides an overview of some of the features of the operating system. In the video, the OS looks fairly smooth and crisp even though it was booted from a USB stick, it does have a lot of Chrome OS feel to it, but probably most important of all is that its fast and boots up quickly, making it perfect for netbooks.
