With the recent buzz about the use of the free iPhone “jailbreakme” AppSnapp Installer for 1.1.1, we’re disappointed to say that the iPhones soon to be delivered to the UK from O2 won’t be able to take advantage of this brilliant piece of firmware breakthrough…

Apple iPhone Firmware 1.1.2

Why? It seems that from the image shown above, the iPhone which will be arriving the UK on November 9th will come with the latest firmware version 1.1.2, which means this lot will have already out-paced jailbreakme‘s recent application.

Apple iPhone

The iPhone is once again free! Following the not so hopeful jailbreak for iPhone v1.1.1 yesterday by a non-Dev Team (possibly called the ‘Elite’ iPhone Team), we now have one that does a much better job of breaking free the Apple iPhone firmware v1.1.1.

However, before I go on to summarise this new v1.1.1 unlocking method there is one bad news… this new hack is not applicable to those who used anySIM or iUnlock to unlock your iphone, if you do use it, it will brick your iPhone! (<–See update at the bottom) For everyone who used hacks like TurboSIM, IPSF Paid solution, etc… you will be able to use it.

After the new Microsoft Zune players were unveiled by Microsoft a few days ago, I thought I might post a demo video of the new Zune players here. But first, if you don’t know much about them, here’s a quick intro…

If you have been reading our post from yesterday regarding the latest Apple iPhone firmware v1.1.1 update you will know that there has been an ongoing debate about whether iPhones which had been unlocked for use with non-AT&T sims will still work after this recent software update.

Well, up til this moment, after lots of testing with various sims and many attempts to re-activate, many iPhone readers and experts now believe that Apple has managed to create a software update that is AnySim and iPhone Sim Free proof!? There is now also a video uploaded in Gizmodo, this video demonstrates the whole process of updating the software on an iPhone Sim Free unlocked iPhone. The verdict is… after software update, the activate iphone screen crops up and unless you have a valid AT&T sim & contract, it won’t be possible to activate it.

This update includes the iTunes Wireless Store, but if you have an unlocked iPhone, this may really affect your phone. According to Gizmodo, the software update will work fine on simlocked iPhones, however, if your iPhone is unlocked this software brings your phone back to activation screen which eventually fails to be activated! So unlocked iPhones don’t go for this update (this is currently the safest recommendation)! Gizmodo has confirmed this fact with iPhones which have been unlocked using hacks provided by anySIM and iPhone Sim Free, whilst at the same time, third party applications also won’t work after this update is installed.

Well there’s already been alot of speculation around this issue recently, like we said in our post on some potential ways Steve Jobs might tackle the iPhone hacking problem. It seems Apple will decide to prevent further iPhone hacks simply by disabling those hacked iPhones from being able to be updated in the future. This is actually quite similar to what we thought would happen… indeed we felt acting through future service packs and firmware updates would be the most efficient way to handle it, however it didn’t come to our minds that Apple would attempt to ‘abandon’ those unlocked iPhones by forcing them to opt out of future updates. Certainly this sounds quite harsh, but again this has been the exact same way that Microsoft has handled it against users with unvalid Windows keys…
