Today we have an app for the iPhone that unlocks your phone using face detection tech. This latest application is called RecognizeMe, and it scans your face with the front facing camera of your phone in order to unlock your iPhone 4 – hence earlier iPhones won’t be able to use this feature.
Panasonic last week officially launched their new Lumix DMC-GF1, its third Micro Four Thirds camera at the IFA in Berlin. Claimed to be thw world’s smallest and lightest possible DSLR camera with built in flash, the GF1 comes in three colours – red, white and black and has a retro-like thin body design that challenges that of the Olympus E-P1 “PEN”.
Last week Sony announced the launch of their next in the line Alpha series DSLR cameras, the Alpha 500 and 550 (see the press release after the break). To be out from the end of October this year, the DSLR-A550 and DSLR-A500 digital SLRs are based around new CMOS sensors with added manual focus confirmation live view mode using the main imaging sensor, in addition to Sony’s secondary-sensor Quick AF live view system.
Both cameras feature Sony’s better noise reduction, include an Auto HDR mode and offer sensitivity of up to ISO 12800. The 14.2 MP A550 features a higher resolution 921k dot 3″ tilt-angle LCD, while the 12.3 MP A500 comes with a 230k dot resolution 3″tilt-angle LCD.The pictures below are the first hands on photos taken with the Alpha 500 by the folks over at Pocket Lint.

Sony has unveiled two very non-pricey, highly affordable point and shoot Cyber-shots with high end specs. The DSC-TX1 and DSC-WX1 are both new additions to Sony’s Cyber-shot range. Sony has blessed the TX1 and WX1 with a back-illuminated CMOS sensor, the Exmor R. If you’re wondering why the duo will have near DSLR specs, its mainly because of its sensor. Their sensors will be based on those found in Sony’s DSLRs, this promises to deliver optimal low-light performance without help from a flash or tripod – something that not many point and shoots are doing so well at the moment.
Both 10.2 megapixel TX1 and WX1 will be under the stunning budget price of $380. The $350 WX1 features the exact same G Lens, low-light optimized Exmor R CMOS sensor and Sweep Panaroma mode as seen in Sony’s $500 HX1 mega zoom camera.
