Having recently talked about Current Cost’s latest energy efficiency monitor system, the ENVI, we’d just like to post some photos of the one which we received just before the weekend. If you’re from the UK, you will know that our government highly recommends the use of monitors like these in every household. Though the ENVI only monitors electricity and not a combination of both power and gas, we’re keen on testing it out over the  next few days and provide you with some of our thoughts on what its like.

This is definitely the world’s first. The Spanish technology company iUnika announced last week a series of lightweight and eco-friendly netbooks. While it must be admitted that these are not suited for those keen on gaming, the GYY netbooks would just about do everything else the average user requires.

To hit the European market this summer, in June. The netbooks come with a low energy demanding 400MHz CPU, 128MB of RAM, an 8-inch screen a max resolution of 800×400 and a 64GB SSD drive. Current Cost, a company which specialises in high tech products for improving energy efficiency, reducing energy costs in both individual households and large scale organisations have launched a new product called ENVI. ENVI as you would imagine is an energy monitor, monitoring your home’s electricity usage. What is unique about Current Cost’s real-time energy monitors is that these allows you to read the gathered data using an application on your PC. Connecting a serial cable to the display downloads the information in XML format. A number of developers have created applications which uses the data gathered by the energy monitor (see examples here). Analysing this data will allow the user to hopefully change their energy consumption behaviour and therefore lead to improved energy efficiency.

GM and Segway have teamed up before the New York Auto Show on what they’re calling the PUMA project. The prototype vehicle was exclusively unveiled today on the Today Show in the States. Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility is what I believe PUMA stands for. Outside of NBC’s Today Show this morning was a demonstration of the PUMA project developed by GM in partnership with Segway, knowing how popular the tv show is, not surprisingly lots of fans and viewers turned up to see the PUMA in action.
