After we featured the cracked screen iPhone a few days ago, here we have another gem from eBay. This is a first gen Apple iPhone 16 GB gilded in 24K gold by Sayn Design using nano technologies making it scratch proof. This has been done in Germany and comes with certificates confirming and reassuring you that its made of the highest quality possible. It is brand new and comes with what you would expect in the box, its already been unlocked and is currently in firmware 1.1.4. The price for it is not for bid but only through buy it now and is a massive $2,000 USD which is equivalent to £1,042.05! This I suppose if you’re a millionaire you probably wouldn’t mind having one of these, this would match nicely with the gold plated Porsche Convertible we previously featured!
One particular iPhone 3G on eBay (US) is making its way to becoming featured on a number of blogs this week. This 8Gb black iPhone 3G is just one week old, though screen is seriously cracked from an accidentally drop on the floor, everything else does function perfectly fine, as pictured and as claimed by its seller. At this moment, bid is just at $127.50, though reserve have not yet been met.
No contract comes with this phone. The Iphone comes with charger, sim card, sim card removal tool, usb cord, user manual and original box.
With brand new iPhone 3Gs’ with no attached contracts on eBay bidding up to as much as $700 – $800 or even more, how much are you willing to pay for an iPhone 3G that’s got a damaged screen, taking into consideration you will probably need to spend some cash to repair it at some point in the future…
You’re new to the iPhone or new to the world of jailbreaking the iPhone, whether you bought the latest brand new iPhone 3G or found an absolute bargain for the first generation iPhone (2G) off eBay and mistakenly updated its firmware after switching it on the first time, you might find the links below useful to sort out your current problem.
For the iPhone 2G on firmware 2.0:
- Unless you wish to, you no longer have to downgrade your iPhone from 2.0 back to 1.1.4 in order to re-jailbreak or re-unlock (exception for Windows users, see below)
- For Mac users: The Pwnage Tool released by the iPhone Dev Team is what you need to jailbreak, unlock and activate the first generation iPhone. The first version, 2.0 received a number of complaints regarding errors, however if you’ve successfully run the Pwnage Tool 2.0 and have had no problems then you should not try to jailbreak again using the latest version 2.0.1.
- Windows users: Update (27/07/2008): iPhone users have come up with a way to jailbreak, unlock and activate your first generation iPhone. As you are aware, the Pwnage Tool isn’t compatible with Windows, instead a WinPWN 1.0 2.0.0.3 has been released to do this job. You can download this here. Unfortunately for Windows users, its abit more complicated because the WinPWN is used to pwn firmware 1.1.4 and not 2.0 directly, so you will need to get your iPhone back to 1.1.4 first before proceeding. Follow all the instructions precisely here, it’s a few extra steps compared to Mac users, but in the end you will be able to jailbreak, unlock and activate your 2G iPhone and run firmware 2.0. This new version of the WinPwn tool is much less complicated than its previous version and will jailbreak and unlock your first generation iPhone. Also you no longer need to be in firmware version 1.1.4 to start off with, you can be using 2.0 and the WinPwn tool will support it. For more info, here is where you need to go.
For the iPhone 3G (firmware 2.0 of course):
- For Mac users: The Pwnage Tool, latest version 2.0.1 is what you need. Though it is the latest version of the tool, the tool still cannot unlock your iPhone. The Pwnage Tool 2.0.1 will however be able to jailbreak your iPhone 3G so that you can run all the apps you like, click here for the link for further details.
- For Windows users: Folks at Whirlpool.net.au Forums have figured out a way to jailbreak iPhone 3G using Windows, again this does not unlock the iPhone 3G. This process does not involve using any kind of Pwnage Tool, it involves downloading some recovery files and custom restore files, you need to follow the link here. Update (27/07/2008): the latest version of WinPwn has been released: version 2.0.0.3 is currently the best and most stable. However, the WinPwn, like the Pwnage Tool for Mac will not unlock your iPhone 3G but will jailbreak it. More info here…
So that’s all for the moment, remember the iPhone 3G can be jailbroken with the present methods above but not unlocked yet. By using any of the methods, you will always run the risk of getting your iPhone bricked! And as always, we’re not the one who created there methods, credits should be given to the respective members of the online iPhone community, we cannot be held responsible for any problems caused by the methods above, because we’re also just readers and reviewers ourselves! Feel free to leave your comments or suggest any corrections.
Just to follow up on my previous post this afternoon, the WWDC08 Keynote has began and am too currently following Jason and Brian at Gizmodo who are covering the event live.
So far, it’s mostly been about some of the latest apps that will soon be out, here are some shots of:
- TypePad’s blogging application:
- Associated Press’ news fetching and reporting application:
Would you fancy a 24 karat gold plated MacBook Air with a bejeweled version of the classic rainbow Apple? I have to say it’s great to look at, especially if you’re obsessed with gold! But I don’t see how this MacBook Air will be practical in anyway, would be too worried about damaging it or scratching it, nevermind what goes on inside! The Air within is just a standard 1.6ghz/2gb/80GB which costs at most $1,799 USD on the Apple Store and even cheaper if you find it elsewhere like Amazon or eBay, but for a 24k gold plated one, you would be looking at $5000 USD…

Obviously adding weight to the MacBook Air is an issue because lightweight is its main selling point, however, according to Gizmodo who talked with Alex Wiley from Computer Choppers…
The weight hasn’t noticeably changed since it’s plating. The jewelry may add an ounce or two if that. Diamonds and jewelry depend on what the customer asks for, the rainbow is 14kt gold with 3.8ctw sapphires adds another $3000 USD.
Zicplay Microkey mp3 players have been said to be the tiniest 1 Gb mp3 players produced yet.
What is so special about it is that they are smaller than iPod Shuffles, do not require the use of iTunes and yet will also be available in a variety of shiny, attractive colours. Actually, the main feature is yet to come, Zicplay’s Microkey players do not have screens but have heat sensitive interface casings, which means you simply press its play indicator to well…play! Also its got built-in an equivalent amount of music storage capacity as the iPod Shuffle plus a Li rechargeable battery that can last up to 6 hours of music play time. Interestingly a relatively new piece of technology has been applied to this new mini-player,a cable that actually turns on the mp3 player when they are plugged inand hung around the neck giving the whole concept a ‘jewel’s design’ and a cool-elegant feeling for the person using it.
Here’s another update on BitLet.org, we’ve seen this site renew itself so much recently and I have to say its recent function update does really increase the convenience of sharing files on BT.
This new function on BitLet.org gives users the ability to directly create torrent files without the hassle of requiring a software / client on your own pc. What’s more, BitLet now gives you the option to input a tracker you would like to use and once your torrent file is ready, its well on its way to be directly submitted onto the web.
I’m sure this all sounds very confusing, I hope my screenshots below will be more understandable.
The default tracker is http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce but that can easily be changed.
