So far Apple has avoided doing anything similar to this for the iPhone. This hack done by ubiq, allowed him to use Apple’s wireless keyboard to type in iPhone apps and texts and emails, etc. Making the Apple keyboard a fully functional keyboard for the iPhone and iPod Touch, users however still need to have their devices jailbroken first. Hopefully in the future, other non Apple wireless bluetooth keyboards may also be used which means those who don’t like to buy Apple’s products and accessories won’t need to as they can resort to third party ones!

jailbreak-iphoneIt seems Apple has been paying more attention than usual to iPhone users who jailbreak their iPhones in order to use third party cooler apps. Apple has reemphasised once again that jailbreaking an iPhone or removing the software impediments that keep out unauthorized applications is no different from breaking the law.

Here’s what Arik Hesseldahl from BusinessWeek wrote:

The statement was Apple’s first official comment on the practice of jailbreaking, which first emerged within days of the iPhone’s initial release in mid 2007. It came in response an effort by the Electronic Frontier Foundation to make the procedure exempt from prosecution under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. The EFF had argued that jailbreaking the iPhone should be protected under the principal of fair use. “There is no copyright-related rationale for preventing iPhone owners from decrypting and modifying the device’s firmware in order to enable their phones to interoperate with applications lawfully obtained from a source of their own choosing,” the EFF’s Fed von Lohman and Jennifer Granick wrote in their filing with the Copyright Office.

Apple argued otherwise in a response filing opposing any exemption. Jailbreaking an iPhone, it argues, destroys “the technological protection of Apple’s key copyrighted computer programs in the iPhone device itself and copyrighted content owned by Apple that plays on the iPhone resulting in copyright infringement, potential damage to the device and other potential harmful physical effects.” It also constitutes a breach of contract, Apple attorney David Hayes of Fenwick and West wrote.

Here’s a what looks like a-really-fun-when-you’re-really-bored Obama trampoline iPhone game featured in the video below. You can choose your favourite politician if Obama is not your type, there are different levels and just looks like an all round boredom-buster. Too bad though, its been rejected from the App Store by Apple.

Here’s what Apple said…

…it contains content that ridicules public figures and is in violation of Section 3.3.12 from the iPhone SDK Agreement which states:

“Applications must not contain any obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, etc.), or other content or materials that in Apple’s reasonable judgement may be found objectionable by iPhone or iPod touch users.”

Let’s face it, us geeks are not terribly fit. We’re really good at sitting in front of the computer, while our fingers and hands may be hard at work, not really any other part of our body is! So maybe this could help us out. Chris Hall from Pocket-lint have got a list of gadgets here which are not just fun gadgets in its own right but also provides ways (application) in which their technology could possibly help get us fit again.

I know quite alot of our readers here have the iPhone, the StepTrak Lite app from the App Store is free and is basically a pedometer on your iPhone. It’s not bad at all for those who may want to start ‘lite’ with some gentle walking first :) , it’s free so why not give it a go?
Here’s a screenshot of StepTrak Lite:
