We’ve seen various Microsoft Kinect hacks before but this latest is no less boring because the folks at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology have modified / hacked a Kinect so that one could use arm gestures to control and fly a quadrocopter. This demo is the result of a ETH Zurich Bachelor Thesis by Armin Ambühl, supervised by Sergei Lupashin and Raffaello D’Andrea.
The pilot can point in the direction they want the quadrotor to fly with their right arm. Left-arm movement causes the flying craft to do a flip. And if you stop pointing, it just hovers wherever you last instructed it to go.
