Case closed: Sony vs Hotz

On April 18, 2011, in Gaming, by Mike Jefferson

You will remember George “Geohot” Hotz, the famous PS3 hacker that was being sued by Sony for cracking their firmware? Well, it appears that Hotz and Sony have achieved a settlement and the case is now closed.

The famous case with Sony against Hotz has ended and it seems that both sides are ready to put the past behind. If you’re wondering who won the case, we have to say that the winner was Sony in the end, however Hotz didn’t lose either, but he has managed to avoid prison sentence, and he got away with an official and permanent warning not to release information about PS3 jailbreak ever again.

Hackers and Hotz’s supporters worldwide aren’t happy with the outcome, and so far, although there isn’t much information about the case, we’ll probably get them from Hotz in near future. In addition, Hotz has decided to boycott Sony by never purchasing a Sony product ever again. After being sued by Sony, and all legal trouble that he had with Sony, we can’t really blame him.

Although the case is closed, we are still waiting for more information, we’ll keep you posted.
