Pwnage Tool for iOS 4.1 now available for download, here’s a quick guide

Hey folks, just days after the first screenshot of the new Pwnage Tool for jailbreaking iOS devices running 4.1 was released, we now have the official word that its ready for download. The new free Pwnage Tool 4.1 will support jailbreaking of iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod 2G, 3G and 4G. In addition, it’ll also jailbreak the iPad as well as the new Apple TV 2.

Those who are not familiar, you need to beware that the Pwnage Tool is for Mac OS X users only. If you’re determined that jailbreaking is what you need, and Pwnage Tool would be your most suitable tool then borrowing a friend who has a Mac is always an alternative solution.

Remember, you should never just update your device to iOS 4.1 via iTunes without using Pwnage Tool if you plan on unlocking it afterwards. If you plan on upgrading to iOS 4.1 and unlocking your device (ie iPhone) afterwards, PwnageTool will help you create and restore to a custom IPSW file. For instance, you can restore to a pre-jailbroken firmware while simultaneously maintaining your current baseband which will be the key to enabling the unlocking of your iPhone (so that you can use ultrasn0w to unlock).

A common mistake is to not press and hold the Option key on your keyboard while pressing Restore on iTunes at the same time. If you don’t press Option then iTunes will not allow you to restore your iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad with the custom IPSW file you created using Pwnage Tool 4.1 – your jailbreak will therefore not be successful and there will be a high chance that your iPhone’s baseband gets updated as well.
