Facebook is the number one and leading social networking site today but have you ever wondered how safe your personal data is on Facebook? With several million Facebook users you can’t really feel safe on Facebook, can you? However, what would happen if someone would take your personal data from Facebook account and publish it to a wider community?
Though you can easily hide any personal information on Facebook or at least choose who will have access to your personal information such as email address, birth date or your actual address, but most users keep all of their information available to public. As for Facebook, Facebook tries to do its best in order to protect your personal information and your privacy but if you keep your information available to public that’s your problem. Recent news shows that 100 million Facebook profile details have been collected into single file and released for download on Pirate Bay. This time it’s not a security issue with Facebook, Facebook does its job well when it comes to security so the only information that is available in this file are the ones that you keep public.
The person that gathered this information is security expert Ron Bowles that has used special piece of code that has collected all public information available on 100 million profiles. This information mostly includes your Facebook url, Facebook ID and your name.
According to the Facebook, this is not a security threat because all of this information is available to anyone at all times. So before using Facebook again do check what information you share with the public.
