Social websites have experienced a huge growth over the last few years. Both Twitter and Facebook are highly popular and they both have huge amount of users, but other companies do not take that well and one of those companies is Google.

Now the word is out that Google might develop its own social network service. Google has already negotiated with the leading developers of online games such as Playdom Inc, Electronic Arts Inc’s Playfish and Zynga Game Network Inc so many people are guessing that Google wants to start its own social network.

Still there’s no official word from Google about this issue and we don’t know when will this service come to life. As you might know, Google already has its social network, Orkut that has been launched in 2004. Although Orkut is the 65th most popular website in the world with more than 100 millions of users it isn’t appealing to the US audience. It’s not yet known whether will Google start a whole new service or it will simply try to improve its existing social network.

We’re looking forward to seeing some new players on a social network field, and we’re hoping that Google will do a good job in challenging Facebook. Let’s just hope that Google’s social network does better than Google Buzz that supposed to challenge Twitter. You do remember Google Buzz, right?
