This summer, the long-awaited iPhone 4.0 will hit stores. Steve Jobs unveiled seven new, exciting and totally to-watch-out-for features, check them out after the break…
Double tap the Home button and a strip displays all running applications that a user can switch to and from. What’s more, Apple created APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) so a user can multi-task without affecting the performance of running applications or battery life. These APIs are built in 7 strategic areas — audio, voice over IP, location services, push notifications, local notifications, task completion and fast app switching.
In the 4.0 version of iPhone, a user can organize similar apps under one folder category. Just drag an app and drop it on top of another to create a folder. This new feature allows user to view a list of up to 2000 apps at a time as compared to the older version that displays a measly 180 apps onscreen.
This new feature is perfect for users who maintain multiple email accounts from a variety of email providers. A common inbox will now capture all the messages from different email accounts or exchange accounts. This fast switching between email accounts is further enhanced with threaded email features. Also, a light tap on an attached file opens the attachment in separate applications, including third-party software.
iPad iBooks can now be read via iPhone 4.0. All iBooks features, such as page flipping and other animations, are integrated to 4.0. Users can purchase iBooks directly from the Apple iBookstore. iPhone 4.0 comes with a free Winnie the Pooh iBook.
Apple provided new powerful features for enterprise clients. These include email encryption using a PIN code, support for Exchange Server 2010, SSL VPN, mobile device management and wireless corporate app distribution.
The iPhone 4.0 comes with a new social network integration for gaming. You can now invite your friends for online multigaming via the social-gaming network Game Center or even post your scores in Leaderboards. Game Centers are initially available to developers but was reported to be available to users by the end of this year.
iAd Mobile Advertising
A new mobile advertising feature of the phone focuses on developers, which can offer free apps that are ad-sponsored. Apple will host the iAds and will have a revenue share of 40%.
