We’ve been sent one of Sony’s newest clock radios, the ICF-CL75iP. You will be aware we just only recently reviewed one of Sony’s clock radios, the ICF-C8WM. You can consider the ICF-CL75iP as a step up from the former as it boasts support for USB drives, iPods and iPhones and memory cards. Its also got a massive seven inch WVGA colour LCD. We’ll be reviewing it shortly, but for now check out some pictures we took of its unboxing.

I just picked one up myself at the Sony Store. So far so good. iPhone videos look good and sound is what was expected. Just loaded about 70 pictures on the hard-drive. Loading is a little cumbersome (no select all command and only able to load 50 at a time). One thing that is confusing and hopefully you can assist… How the heck do you delete the sample pictures so that they do not appear in the slide show? Thanks!

Further to my post last night – I have contacted Sony Support in regards to deleting the sample photos (which show up continuously in the slide show) and there response was "There is no way to delete the factory installed wallpapers and pictures". That being said, who wants a picture slide show on their desk or night table with pictures of other people's children?
Can you dock an iPhone in a case? My wife got me an ip41 from iHome and to use it I would have to take my iPhone out of its case daily. I don’t know many people who carry an iPhone w/o a case. Why don’t manufacturers understand this?

I have been researching and reading the manuals, actually in store at Best Buy, on the Sony ICF-CL75iP. It looked like the best night stand, clock radio, digital picture frame, and IPhone dock, I could find. As far as sound quality, there are many better, but sound quality was not my highest priority for a glorfied clock radio. Being a practical gadget nut, I still really liked this unit and wanted it. What stopped me, was the lack of the ability to program the bright and very good photo display, to turn off and on at user preset times. (like many photo frames do). Yes you can dim it at night, but it also dims the clock. I like being able to see a clock at night, but not a photo display all night. My other problem with the unit, and I have seen other reviews that agree, that the inability to delete the sample pictures is an issue. I agree totally…..Fix these problems Sony, and I will buy one in a heart beat…
can I use it with my series X 1051 walkman?
Hi Tom, theoretically, the CL75iP has been designed for iPods and iPhones as this is what the dock on its right has been designed to do. However, technically speaking, you can use it with your walkman music player only if you connect the usb cable to the back of the clock radio. The clock will then need to play the music from your walkman via usb, it will import music to the clock too. Finally, the usb port will also charge your walkman while it is connected. Hope this helps.
As a clock/radio I am thrilled. Easy to set alarms, good display. Disappointed when I plug in my iPhone 3G I cannot use apps for music. Only iTunes work. "HATE" I cannot delete the preset photos.
I can listen to music apps with my iPhone 3Gs. Just start playing a song then pause it on the iPhone. Go back to the main menu and put on the app. It doesn't show what song is playing on the screen of the Dream Machine but it still plays the music.
What looser at Sony allowed this to be released without ensuring the the sample photos could be deleted? I now have UGLY photos in the slideshow ! That’s just great ! And I thought Apple were annoying ….
I suppose if you were really desperate you could set the slideshow at one-hour intervals and have 24 photos with say 10 photos which are just black… if you had the photos in the right order then the black ones would appear at the appropriate time, and after ten hours it would change to your slide show.
An annoying and fiddly fix for something that should be simple, but a fix none-the-less.
No idea how to deal with the sample photos.. unless you buy a small memory card and can set it to only use photos from that?
Does anyone have a problem with LCD inverter buzz when dimmed to the middle two settings?
Mine's loud enough to be a permanently alarmed clock. Disappointed already.
I'm having a problem with this unit shutting off completely during the night. It's happened twice so far. I also get the error message that it is not compatible with the iPhone. I'm using the correct adapter and can't understand why this would be happening.
I thought this was geat but it ended up (after 3 months) being rubbish as started shutting down randomly and now will not re start – recommend do not buy
I bought one for my daughter she loved it but after only less than 6 months it staarted to have spiratic problems now under a year old its dead and shes heartbroken longing for anouther with the same specs can anyone recamend anything different under $100?
