Geohot, the non-iPhone Dev Team iPhone hacker who brought his first tool purplera1n has created another breakthrough which sees him once again take the lead in releasing a working jailbreak solution for the new iPhone OS update 3.1.2.

This time though, the new jailbreak tool is called blackra1n and is indeed quite powerful. Blackra1n will jailbreak all iPhones (even iPhone 3G and 3GS, but with caution, read below) and all generations of iPod Touch running the new iPhone OS firmware 3.1.2 which was just released earlier this week. Another feature of Geohot’s blackra1n jailbreaking tool which will be most welcomed is that it will only take 30 seconds to complete its jailbreak process, much less time consuming compared to the Dev Team’s now traditional PwnageTool.

Before you get too excited though, users need to be aware of the following:

• Blackra1n supports Windows and not Mac
• Blackra1n does not bypass baseband update for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS so if you plan on having your iPhone unlocked using iPhone Dev Team’s ultrasn0w unlocking tool in the future then it is suggested that you wait until the next update of PwnageTool is released.
