Update (04/11/2009): Those who have 05.11.xx baseband but have not been able to use fuzzyband’s baseband downgrader due to various reasons including non-supporting bootloader version should have a look at a new unlock tool released for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS by Geohot. It’s known as blacksn0w, it will work for iPhones running the latest firmware 3.1.2 on baseband 05.11.07: http://www.gadgetlite.com/2009/11/04/blacksn0w-iphone-3g-3gs-os-3-1-2/
We’ve been increasing contacted about whether it is possible to downgrade the new iPhone OS 3.1′s newly upgraded baseband 05.11.07 on the iPhone 3G / 3GS. At first we were quite convinced that the iPhone Dev Team would soon work something out for those who have mistakenly upgraded their iPhone 3G / 3GS and wait. But now it seems many are now understandably eager and want to be able to use their locked up iPhones again. That’s the bad news, the good news now is that there is a method to safely downgrade your iPhone 3G’s updated baseband from 05.11.07 back to an ultrasn0w unlockable baseband – 04.26.08.
We must stress though, there is currently no method to downgrade 05.11.07 on the iPhone 3GS, this method will work for iPhone 3G only. Its also important to know that this downgrade does not concern users of the first generation iPhone as it is practically invulnerable to baseband changes. Downgrading only works on phones that have the 05.08 (5.8) bootloader from the factory.
Fuzzyband Downgrader is a relatively safe iPhone 3G baseband downgrader which we have featured before, the great thing about using it downgrade your iPhone 3G is that it works brilliantly in automatically detecting your iPhone’s baseband and bootloader version. A simple tap will start it off, which means even beginners who have no technical knowledge can use it too.
Fuzzyband Downgrader is available through ICY and Cydia, this means that you will need to jailbreak your iPhone. If you have already done so, refresh your sources and search for Fuzzyband and install the application.
Basically, the concept is, if you want to be able to unlock your iPhone 3G on OS version 3.1 then you can run Fuzzyband Downgrader so that the current version of ultrasn0w can unlock your iPhone 3G on firmware 3.1 (via the new Pwnage Tool) as your iPhone will then have its older baseband version 04.26.08 back.
For those who are already confused (and I don’t blame you), here are some steps which will make this process easier for you.
First make sure you have already jailbroken your iPhone 3G. Then look up Fuzzyband Downgrader via ICY or Cydia whichever you prefer…

Once you’ve got the application, start the Fuzzyband app and tap on the “Downgrade” button to automatically start detecting your baseband and begin downgrading from 05.11.07 to 04.26.08. When it is successful, it will say ” You’re ready for ultrasn0w!”.
If anyone has problems or suggestions for other better methods, we’d love to hear from you, just pop us a comment below or twitter us!

hi there, i got a question. i just downgrade my iphone 3G firmware to 2.2 from 3.1. however the baseband still on 05.11.07. will the fuzzyband able to downgrade the baseband to 04.26.08 with my current firmware? pls help… thanks beforehand.
Hi, I’d rather be honest with you and say we’re not sure. But one thing is definitely true, there is no harm in trying because the downgrader app won’t do any harm. And if it isn’t capable of downgrading it, then it won’t even attempt to do so, that’s for sure. However, I do have a suspicion that it could work, so give it a go! Do let us know how it went, sorry we couldn’t be of more thelp.
Thanks for reply.. I did try but another problem came up.. The wi-fi.. I turn on my home wifi network but my iPhone 3G wasn’t able to connect to it. Then I upgrade it to 3.0.1 and I got an error 1015. Then I try to jailbreak using redsnow 8.0 with firmware 3.0. On my computer(window) it shows that it succesfull jailbreak and waiting for the phone to reboot. However, on my iPhone screen I saw it shows the errow facing down to the hardisk with spinning wheel at the bottom. and the spinning wheel keep spinning on and on for so long until the phone restart. After that the phone show up with the itune logo as in recovery mode. What do u think I should do now? My iPhone now is like a brick… Only u is my only hope. Pls help…
We’re not certain where the error is coming from. But the good news is if you need to immediately resolve the problem so that your iPhone can be used again, you can do that easily since you can get into recovery mode. Did you backup? When you are in iTunes with your iPhone in recovery mode, press shift (Windows) or options (Mac) then click Restore. This will then ask you to choose which previous backups you want to restore back onto your iPhone.
well if u have that problem u need to download the program ihatesn0w. there is an option to fix recovery loop and to fix error 1015 the same error i was haveing just read the instructions and it will be easy and restore to custom firmware 3.1 and then downgrade baseband with fuzzyband then unlock with ultrasn0w. hope i helped.
Firstly i wanted to thx for this tutorial that give me some hopes of unlocking my carrier.
My question is does this works for Bootloader 06.08? cos i have tried using fuzzyband and yes it did not allow me to downgrade after verified that my bootloader is 06.08 and baseband 05.11.07
Hi, just tried this and was told it was “Not Supported” because I have Bootloader Version 5.09 and Fuzzy uses 5.08. Any suggestions???
Thanks
I’m using the iphone 3g 16gig jailbroken. Just a little more info.
Thanks
Sorry yeshess, unfortunately the latest fuzzyband downgrader still doesn’t support newer bootloader versions, all we can do is wait for the next updated release.
Ok thanks, hope they crack this soon…..
Hello,
Any news on when new a fuzzyband (with other bootloader versions support) will come out ?
There are a lot of ppl (like me) crying out loud over this :p
Thanks
Fuzzyband didn´t works on baseband 05.11.07…. only 05.08.xx and lower. Please correct this tutorial aclaring this (and the main title too). Thank you.
Jiuq, this appears to be odd as we’ve not had others speak of this issue. Do you mean the 05.08 version of bootloader or the actual baseband?
Hello. Yes i tried to do in my iphone 3G with the update 3.1 (i know.. my mistake!!!) and basseband 05.11.07. The fuzzyband only works in basseband 05.08.xx and lowers. the fuzzyband show: “BootLoader Version 06.04 BaseBand 05.11 Not Supported. Sorry dowgrading only work with baseband bootloader 05.08.”
I have the same problem.
Should I wait for a new release of fuzzyband?
Thanks

Hi
I accidently upgraded to 3.1 through itunes on an iPhone 3G 8Gb, iv managed to downgrade my firmware from 3.1 to 3.0 using itunes 8.2 and redsnow 0.8, i still have the baseband 05.11.07 which i was hoping to downgrade using fuzzyband but my problem is that when i try to open Cydia it dosnt open?!
does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Hi Amir, not absolutely certain but sounds like there could be two causes, either your jailbreak didn’t work successfully in that case just jailbreak again with QuickPwn or Pwnage Tool if you’re a Mac user. The other is simple, do other apps requiring the internet work?
actually i had this problem and my mom stupidly brought my iphone 3g to the apple store thinkin they would help and suprisingly they did. the rep told me to just do a full recover and not of a back up that was made after the problem came and it work really good. i havent had the problem since.. now my only problem is the stupid baseband!!!!!!
Hey there Amir Fallah, well I got a website for u and the rest of u out there.. Try http://www.pandaapp.com. And download the iPhone pc suite v2.6.0.105. I can’t download Fuzzyband from Cydia!
It says:
Open nodename nor servname provided, or not know!
+1 I do have same problem fuzzyband won’t downgrade due to baseband on 3.1.2
– hoping someone can solve this problem
I am curious about the statement “this downgrade does not concern users of the first generation iPhone as it is practically invulnerable to baseband changes.”
Would an original (2G) iphone that was upgraded to the official 3.1.2 OS need a baseband downgrade to allow for an unlock? And if so, can it be done?
Hi there, your iPhone 2G will certainly not need to undergo any downgrading as none of the iPhone firmware updates will change its baseband. Baseband changes apply to all other iPhones except the first generation iPhone. Therefore, you can dive straight in to unlock and jailbreak using iPhone Dev Team’s or GeoHot’s tools. Hope that helps!
ok so i have a 3g fuzzyband will not work because the bootloader is version 5.09 instead of 5.08 what a piss off i effin h8t apple right now does anyone have and suggestions or know of a way to downgrade the bootloader.
