Looks like the prayers of many PlayStation fans have been answered. As some of you may have noticed, it has not been without a treacherous journey of leaked images, rumors and debates. The latest PlayStation or PS3 Slim game console will boast a 120GB hard drive. At a press conference ahead of the 2009 games convention – Games Com – in Cologne, Sony Entertainment has announced it is to reduce the price of its PlayStation 3 games consoles, this will apply to all consoles in stock effective immediately.
In Europe the price of the original PS3 has been reduced to €299, in the US to $299 and in the UK to £249.99. This price drop will hopefully bring the PlayStation closer to its rivals, namely Microsoft’s Xbox 360 at £149 and the Nintendo Wii at £169.
The new PS3 Slim has been announced to arrive by the first week of September though fellow tech site T3 has reported that the console will be hitting the shelves much earlier, on the 24th of August, in just a few days time. Apart from a much slimmer body and 120GB hard drive, the PS3 Slim will have the exact same features as the old PS3 though statistically it is now 32% smaller, 36% lighter and consumes 34% less power.
Pre-order listings claim that the PS3 Slim will include a Blu-ray player, 120GB hard disk, DualShock3 controller, and HDMI output with 1080p support. Pricing wise, it looks set to be $299.99 which suggests a UK price of £182 but knowing Sony and their conversion rates, this UK pricetag could be slightly more than what we anticipate.
