The iPhone Dev Team have released an updated version of redsn0w (version: 0.8) which can also jailbreak iPhone 3GS. Though an earlier version known as the purplera1n achieves similar function in jailbreaking the iPhone 3GS, purplera1n isn’t the official recommended tool from the iPhone Dev Team.

The implication of jailbreaking the iPhone 3GS means iPhone 3GS users will then be able to unlock their phone using ultrasn0w. The Dev Team has also updated ultrasn0w (version: 0.8) to support this.

The new version 0.8 redsn0w now supports jailbreaking of all iPhones and iPod Touches running iPhone OS 3.0.

If you’re an iPhone 3GS owner and want to jailbreak and unlock for use with other network carriers, the download link you need for redsn0w is below:

After you’ve worked the magic using redsn0w be sure to see how to unlock your iPhone 3GS using ultrasn0w
