Today is the first day of Wimbledon 2009! Here are two completely free official Wimbledon 2009 applications that will allow you to stay updated with the latest news and results on your iPhone or Android device while you’re on the go.

Brought to you by IBM, all the news which will be featured within the apps will be done by IBM’s Wimbledon scouts, live starting from today!

For Android

If you’re an Android user, the app known as IBM Seer beta will feature location-aware elements, allowing you to use your Android blower as a real-time guide and interactive map of the tournament. Using GPS, you’ll get a heads up display augmented with live data from the scoring systems and IBM scouts reporting from around the grounds.

If you pointing the camera lens towards a court, for instance, you’ll get the court number, and also details about the current and subsequent matches.

In Map View, your location is pinpointed on a detailed map of the grounds, while you can receive an aggragation of news feeds and updates from IBM scouts, and see in real-time what is happening around the site. And a radar function will help you pinpoint places of interest in your vicinity.

One small problem though, having just looked at the official page for this app, the download link is still unavailable, but we’ll update this as soon as it shows up!

For iPhone / iPod Touch

We’ve just done a quick search of the apps that claim to bring you the latest on this year’s Wimbledon on your iPhone, there are mainly three of them but we would recommend you stick with the official one which is absolutely free. Again, brought to you by IBM this app features news, live scores update, daily schedule of play, draws and on demand video highlights. We can’t wait to find out how well the last function works, lets hope its speedy!
