You would think these would be available by now wouldn’t you? Nope, this is actually the world’s first. This latest gadget, the Samsung LD220 USB monitor has been unveiled at the World IT Show 2009 in Korea. Dedicated for quick plug and play use with laptops and netbooks, the LD220 provides a brightness level of 300cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 30,000:1 and a response speed of 5ms.

Pricing details are yet to be revealed, but the LD220 will certainly not be world’s only USB monitor for very long, these gadgets should become much more popular as time comes as they are definitely very convenient to have.

Note (25062009): After receiving comments from a reader, its worth pointing out that the Samsung LD220 is probably the world’s first USB monitor “dedicated to notebooks” instead of the rather more glorious title itself. As our reader pointed out, the Samsung 940UX was unveiled almost two years ago, equipped with DisplayLink technology for USB connection which also works fine with notebooks and laptops. Thanks Rubens!
