UK pricing: iPhone 3G internet tethering confirmed by O2

If you were following us with the WWDC live yesterday you will notice not much was mentioned about this. That’s because internet tethering with the iPhone 3G and the new iPhone 3G S will ultimately vary according to the network provider in your country. For those not so familiar with what internet tethering is, it basically lets your laptop / netbook / computer use the internet via the iPhone’s 3G connectivity.

Internet tethering will be available through the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 update for existing iPhone 3G users as well as new iPhone 3G S buyers. For those in the UK, you will probably know the new iPhone 3G S will be again arriving with O2.

Here’s the pricing as spotted by our friends at GadgetVenue. It won’t be cheap at all and surprisingly will be at an additional fee on top of your monthly tariff. Internet tethering will only be available for pay monthly customers and unfortunately, not pay as you go customers. The prices start at £14.68 for 3GB of data, if you go over that, there will be an over usage charge of 19.6p per MB! If you feel that isn’t quite enough and dare I say 3GB really isn’t anything, the next level up gets you 10GB but will cost £29.36 with the same overage pricing as per above.
