iPhone 3G S, that’s the name of the new 2009 iPhone we’ve all been looking forward to. S stands for Speed! If you weren’t following us with the live blogging of the WWDC 2009, Phil Schiller has now officially announced the latest iPhone. While having said that the iPhone 3G will still remain on the market, its hoped that the iPhone 3G S will become the most popular camera and video mobile phone to come.

So what will be the specs and features? Many of which were already known through rumors in fact. To be released in black and white, the latest iPhone 3GS will be equipped with a three megapixel camera with autofocus, touch focus, no flash. 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, voice control is a new one, video recording / video camera will also boast editing function. Performance as you would imagine has been much improved with this new iPhone, battery life has also been given a massive boost, with video playback for example now supported for up to ten hours and talk time up to 12 hours on 2G. Also as rumored was a built in compass function, the new iPhone 3GS will of course arrive with iPhone 3.0.

iPhone 3.0 will officially be available to all on June 17th. It will be free for all iPhone customers to update to, while it will cost $9.95 for iPod touch users.

iPhone 3G S will be available in the US from June 19th. Pricing wise, it will be $199 for 16GB version and $299 for its 32GB version. iPhone 3G will have a price drop down to $99. All pricing will still subject to a network provider contract.

Availability of the iPhone 3G S to countries (in picture below) will be from August this Summer. I suspect the arrival date of the iPhone 3G S with O2 in the UK will be earlier than this!
