New InstallerApp backs up and syncs your iPhone jailbreak apps
Backing up apps downloaded from Cydia and the Installer.app for jailbroken iPhones have virtually been a non-existent support thus far. If you’re one of millions who have been either unlocked and/or jailbreaked your iPhone then you will know how great it is to have so many great free third party apps and downloadable tools and content. Despite this, probably the most annoying thing about having a jailbroken iPhone (no matter first gen or second gen iPhone 3G) is that everytime Apple releases a new firmware update, the iPhone’s jailbreak is replaced and what’s lost along with it are all the jailbreak apps downloaded and accumulated over the past weeks and months.
InstallerApp recently developed by RipDev addresses the above problem and appears to provide a possible solution to the needs of iPhone jailbreakers like ourselves.
If you ever had to wait on a new iPhone firmware update because you didn’t want to re-install all those “not from the App Store” apps, InstallerApp is exactly what you need. Synchronize all applications between your iPhone and computer, install the new firmware and synchronize all the apps again back to the phone — no more painful downloads and installation directly on the iPhone.
From what we understand about InstallerApp, it currently is only available on Intel based Macs, it supports both apps downloaded from Cydia and Installer.app. In addition to what we’ve quoted above, InstallerApp acts much like an iTunes alternative, the main difference being it accesses apps for jailbreaked iPhones. Like iTunes, you can use InstallerApp on your Mac to download apps from Cydia and Installer.app whenever you want, then sync with your iPhone later on.
What’s also a bonus to the InstallerApp is that its got a built-in pusher function, what that means is InstallerApp will install the Installer.app magically on your iPhone without needing to jailbreak it.
Overall, the greatest advantage in our view is that InstallerApp saves you the time needed to re-download all your favourite Cydia and Installer.app apps after the iPhone’s firmware is updated after a release. The only downside we believe, is that InstallerApp won’t be a complete iTunes replacement, it won’t update your iPhone’s firmwares and won’t be able to sync any other non-app related content.
Though InstallerApp is only supported on Mac OS X Leopard and higher at the moment, RipDev have mentioned that a Windows version is currently in development. InstallerApp is a commercial software and there is a one off license fee of US $7. By purchasing a license you will add a capability to synchronize up to 3 different iPhones with InstallerApp to install software, get free updates for your InstallerApp 1.x, and also be eligible for the email tech support within a year after purchasing a license. Without a license, InstallerApp is a fully functional application, including ability to perform Push procedure and put Installer.app on iPhone, only package installation onto the iPhone is not available.
