Video: Powermat’s wireless charging technology in action

Posted on January 12th, 2009 by Editorial Staff in Gadgets, Technology

For some who didn’t believe Powermat could really charge our gadgets wirelessly, here’s a video of it in action. I too was a tiny bit skeptical about all this, I never thought this was possible, but they have now done it at a CES demonstration for Engadget.

Powermat gadget chargers consists of a no conductive charging mat and a series of adapters which you can either plug into your gadget, or you can add a case to your gadget, which charges it via the charging mat without any wires.

To be released in Q4 later this year, the Powermat is definitely something to pay close attention to. Not only does it provide so much more convenience to charging your gadgets (if you have lots, one charger for each can literally be disabling if you want to travel anywhere!), but its said that Powermat will also be able to transfer data wirelessly too. The mat part of the Powermat system will be retailed for about $100 and the adapters will go for between $25 and $35 each, more details on that over at Powermat.

We highly recommend having a look at the demonstration video by Engadget here (sorry embedding wasn’t allowed).

Having POWERMAT integrated into my countertop and desk would be so convenient. Imagine putting your laptop down to work and not unwrapping your power cord. Move POWERMAT to the kitchen and the uses are endless!
