Review: LG Renoir KC910 Part 1

On December 24, 2008, in Cell Phones, Featured, Product Reviews, by Admin Staff

After having received our LG Renoir KC910 a couple of days ago, it’s time to share with you guys what we felt about the new LG flagship. It was truly a joy to have around, especially that high spec camera which proved to live up to our expectations. For those that don’t yet know much about the Renoir, just let me swiftly take you through what its about. The LG KC910 Renoir represents one of the latest and greatest of the camera phone line up currently available in the market. It is truly a multimedia king, equipped with latest connectivity technology (HSDPA, Wi-Fi and GPS) with proper, serious imaging and video capabilities (as you will see in our sample photos and videos below). Xenon flash, face tracking and blink detection (it really does work!), geo-tagging and touchscreen focus, combined with XviD and DivX video playback and high resolution widescreen recording.

You may already be aware from our unboxing gallery, the LG Renoir KC910 has a 3-inch TFT display and the latest version of LG’s own flash-based full touch user interface. It’s a simple and intuitive phone but certainly not lite in terms of functionality. And for those who love accelerometers, yes, the LG Renoir does have automatic screen rotation and landscape on screen QWERTY text input!

So in this first part of our review of the Renoir, we will be covering for you, a brief overview first look and a few comments on its design. Then, we’ll show you some of the features it’s got on the updated Viewty-style Renoir user interface.

We’ve decided to split the review into parts because there is just so much to talk about and test out, for part two, which we plan on publishing after our Christmas break, we have prepared a review in which we take a look at the camera and show you some sample photos and videos.

Just before we go on, here are the key official specifications which were sent to us along with the phone. Click to enlarge…

First Look & Design
So now that you know abit about the phone, here’s a quick first look video we took earlier last week…

The Renoir KC910 has a conservative and sharp design. The quality of finish and the materials used producing a nice glossy, shiny exterior definitely makes an excellent first impression, for anyone who decides to buy one and show it off to their friends, you will not fail!

The LG Renoir is about the same size as the LG Viewty KU990, but about 5mm taller. They also weigh much the same too with just 2g of difference, the Viewty being slightly heavier. The Renoir is 13.95mm in terms of thickness, this is not bad considering what it has to offer.

There is no doubt LG Renoir is builds on the very root of Viewty’s cameraphone popularity, but at the same time, the Renoir is very individual. The design, feel and overall experience is different and from what I remember of the Viewty, the LG Renoir definitely has a considerable likeable factor over its predecessor.

As you can see from photos, most the front panel of the Renoir is over taken by the shiny 3-inch touchscreen display. The mirror finish is much the same as that seen from the LG Viewty. A video call camera and a light sensor sits on the top left of the display, this light sensor allows the Renoir to dynamically change the screen brightness. Below the display there are three hardware keys. Those are the red and green call keys, which share one row with the special shortcut key that opens an application launcher and the task manager.
