The Blackberry Storm is RIM’s latest addition in their 3G smartphone line. As you may know it was officially announced on Wednesday in the US by Vodafone and Verizon Wireless which have joined forces for what they believe is going to be an iconic change in the world of smartphones, as well as for Blackberry.

The change? The change has certainly been one which we have already witnessed with the new Blackberry Bold. As for this new and latest addition, the Blackberry Storm indeed gives a very clear indication that RIM intends to stick to their new creative plans and try to produce what could be a new and revolutionised standard which would remain as competitive as ever for many years to come.

The latest Storm you will know has a full clickable 3.26-inch (480 x 360) touchscreen which makes it yet another competitor (after the recently unveiled Nokia 5300 XpressMusic) for the currently “sat high in the throne” Apple iPhone. Other features include a built-in accelerometer, 3.2-megapixel camera, built-in GPS, 1GB onboard storage with microSD/SDHD memory card slot and not to say the least, the Storm will be preloaded with lots of apps (scroll down and see)!

As our source have said, for a company which have just learnt that practicality and design can come together, the Blackberry Storm is in my opinion, a magnificient creation:

The brilliant high res screen does wonders at accentuating the suave looking icons as well as flattering the applications packed inside. The glass touchscreen gives feedback when pressed to let you know that you have performed an action, you can thus avoid the frustration created by other touch screen handsets with even a slightly sluggish OS.

Lets have a look at some of the hardware features packed into this little beaut:

  • 3.25? Touchscreen (480 x 360)
  • Accelorometer
  • Visual Qwerty keyboard
  • 3.2 Megapixel Camera
  • Integrated GPS with A-GPS functionality
  • 1GB Onboard memory with MicroSD support
  • 624 MHz Processor
  • 3G
  • EDGE
  • Built in Handsfree
  • Bluetooth
  • 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack
  • Mini-Usb connectivity

To complement the great hardware specs the Storm has a plethora of fantastic applications in its repertoire that are certain to please left- and right-brainers alike, and the Blackberry OS seamlessly joins these all together. Included in the applications toybox are:

  • BlackBerry® Internet Service, BlackBerry® Unite!, BlackBerry® Professional Software and BlackBerry® Enterprise Server support
  • a Media Player which supports many audio and video formats. Itcan be used to play slideshows and create playlists and even has 11 equalizer preset filters.
  • Blackberry Maps
  • DataViz Documents on the Go which allows you to view and edit Word, Excel and Powerpoitn documents directly on the handset.
  • Ambient light sensor that adjusts the backlighting according to the surrounding light.
  • Organiser
  • Calculator

By some magical trick of the eye, the pictures make the Storm look like it would be too big to even fit into your pocket but in reality the Storm is only a smidgen bigger than the 30GB iPod video.

Lastly, while those from the US who are lucky will be able to get their hands on the new Blackberry Storm soon, it’s been said that it may arrive the UK just before November, so fingers crossed folks, we could be in for a brilliant Christmas! We’ll certainly keep you updated with the latest!

That is a pretty sweet phone. I have verizon wireless and I wanted to get the iphone, but didn’t want to switch to at&t. This phone looks to be just as good if not better than the iphone and I can stay with verizon.
