Maybe touch screens are likely to continue longer than this post title anticipates but what do you think would be the best way to stop your nasty fingerprints from ruining that shiny beautiful screen on your iPod Touch? – Maybe one possible solution to this in the future is to use ‘touchless’ screens:

Of course, the purpose of having touchless screens isn’t actually to prevent fingerprints! Norway?s Elliptic Labs has produced a new patented touchless user interface technology which may become an influential key inspiration to future multimedia / handheld mobile device development. As you would imagine, the best thing about it is that this system could detect in 3D the movement of your hand / finger without ever having to need to touch it.

Check out the videos below, to use the touchless screen system, you don’t need to be equipped with any sensory tools in your hand and it is able to detect your movements from as far as five feet away:

Elliptic Labs will soon be taking their latest development for showing at the Game Developers Conference 2008
