This isn’t just any geeky looking laptop bag, it actually delivers very environment friendly functionality! The Voltaic Generator is actually the world’s first laptop bag to generate strong enough power to charge your laptop via solar energy! Not only does it charge your laptop, it can also charge your mobile phone and handheld. The picture to the right shows you the light which lights up when the bag has gathered enough solar energy to generate a charge.

It uses high efficiency solar cells to generate maximum power in the limited space available. It includes a battery pack custom designed to efficiently store and convert the electricity generated.

Here are some official notes:

  • Solar panel generates up to 14.7 watts, powerful enough to fully charge a typical laptop from a day of direct sunlight.
  • The included battery pack efficiently stores the equivalent of a typical laptop charge and automatically delivers the required output voltages
  • Common adaptors are included for easy connection to laptops, phones and other handheld electronics
  • Other devices can connect via USB or car charger
  • Will hold up to a 17″ Powerbook inside a protective case
  • Fabrics made from recycled PET (soda bottles), which is tough, water resistant and light weight

On the down side, because this isn’t just any laptop bag, the price is also quite atypical. The bag is available in silver, orange, green and charcoal, each will cost you $599 which is equivalent to about ?300, exactly the same as what you would pay for a laptop with average specs.

Great idea and it appears to’ve been well executed here.
Now if we could just get a bag that would convert the waste heat from the laptop’s battery back to usable electricity, I think we’d really have something to write home about!

That bag looks really nice. Through this bag you can generate power that will charge your laptop. I wonder how much and where this product will be available.
