The Aqua Dom is NOT your typical hotel fish tank…

Posted on January 9th, 2008 by Admin Staff in Featured

Behold, the Aqua Dom! This six storey high cylinder shaped fish tank really isn’t your typical aquarium, located within the heart of the Berlin hotel, The Radisson SAS, the Aqua Dom measures to be 25m high, 11m in diameter and holds 1 million litres of water!

With 56 different species of precious resident fish, the Aqua Dom and its lively community needs to be maintained by two full time divers (as pictured below). Being the world’s largest cylinder aquarium, the Aqua Dom is also the world’s largest acrylic glass cylinder ever built. Though visitors are not allowed to swim inside it with the friendly residents of the tank, it is possible to take the lift which escalates through the center of the cylinder for your fishy enjoyment!

The whole aquarium costed nearly 13 million euros to build in 2003, whilst no hotel visitor would pay such a price to see this aquarium, you could simply book and specify that you want a room that faces the Aqua Dom for about 260 euros for a weekend.

Here’s the link for the hotel’s website…

  • Now that's what you call a fish tank! Only the Germans can pull that bit of engineering off. Glad I am not cleaning it! Still, I absolutely love it and think it's just such a fine piece of engineering. Some city aquarium don't even have tanks that impressive.
