Not latest, but must see – Stig speaks on Dutch TV…

On January 31, 2008, in Auto Tech, by Admin Staff

Although Top Gear isn’t back yet, we’ve still got a little something to share with you all today. This is definitely NOT what you would expect to see everyday, The Stig is an excellent driver but does he actually speak or is he on mute all the time? I don’t think anyone has actually seen him make a noise on national tv.

Watch the video, it’s great:

Rotondo – the rechargeable LED glass lamp…

On January 31, 2008, in Gadgets, Technology, by Admin Staff

Here’s a piece of decoration you wouldn’t necessarily mind having in your dining room. The Rotondo by Traxon is a water resistant, rechargeable LED glass lamp that can run for as long as eight hours before it needs to be recharged. It’s made of mouth-blown parnaterraglas with a? very elegant frosted finish, what is so neat about it is that it cycles through a spectrum of colors and can be stopped when the hue you like is reached.

This torch isn’t just any ordinary houehold torch, this is ‘The Torch’, it costs $300! I would be reluctant to shine this on anyone because it is so powerful that it can melt plastic and set paper on fire in just a matter of seconds! Definitely not for kids!

See for youself in the videos below:

This may not be the latest news but the concept technology involved in this piece of gadget is just absolutely top-notch! Imagine you had a table which was actually a practical scanner screen, it could scan anything you place on top of it with just a simple tap of the screen, wouldn’t that be great for business meetings? I can think of many uses of this great invention too.

Check out this video:

By the looks of things the quality isn’t as great as Microsoft’s Surface PC but I certainly admire the thinking in creating this product…

Qtrax.com which launched two days ago, is the first, free and legal P2P music download application ever. In case you haven’t tried it yet, they contain over 23 million songs in their database, compare to around 3 million for Amazon and 6 million for iTunes. It is so popular that the service is “currently unavailable” (the last time I checked).

Qtrax is free and legal because it has signed all four major music labels: EMI, SonyBMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. Therefore, they have the right to allow people to download online. Nevertheless, there are a few limitations for this application. First of all, the files downloaded are not compatible with iPod and it?s only played via a player which is built on the Songbird platform. Secondly, it is only support Window at the moment. Most importantly, you will also have to stand with the ads which are displayed during playback and on music devices. It is similar to the Yahoo music player. I suppose it is the way they keep the service free and legal.

If you’ve been paying close attention to our posts about the iPhone / Touch 1.1.3 update jailbreak recently you’ll know we’ve been dwelling on it abit too much – sorry! But just in case you’ve encountered some problems, or got stuck in some of the steps in installing the recent 1.1.3 jailbreak released by the iPhone dev team, here’s a very newly uploaded video which may help you reinforce what you’ve just done:

Just to repeat myself once more, if you’ve still got ‘Nate True’s’ version of 1.1.3 jailbreak on board, you really should switch over to the iPhone dev team’s, for exact reasons, click here

As you may be aware, the latest 1.1.3 jailbreak for both the iPhone and the iPod Touch on Windows and Mac have raised awareness that it was released by ‘Nate True’ and not the iPhone dev team. Many feel concerned that there may be a possibility that both these methods may prevent the future installation of official third party applications (with good reason, read on below) which will be created by the soon to come Apple SDK, software development kit… this makes Nate’s jailbreaks not so good, I’m sorry to say.

However, now that the official 1.1.3 jailbreak from dev team have been released, I strongly recommend you take the necessary steps in switching over to this jailbreak. A few reasons, one mainly being the jailbreak method released by ‘Nate True’ is tantamount to software piracy or copyright infringement and I strongly suggest this should be avoided. Secondly, if you choose to use this official iPhone dev team 1.1.3 jailbreak, there will be much more support in case anything goes wrong in the near future. Plus, dev team is already ‘secretly’ working on a future update which has been said to NOT cause ‘Nikita’ to breakdown. Nikita is the crucial component on the iPhone / iPod Touch responsible for installing signed official software, such as the iPod App Pack and SDK applications in the near future. And it is this component which ‘Nate True’s jailbreak has disrupted.
