?NoPoPo?

NoPoPo (Japanese made) – the name sounds horrible doesn’t it? The concept of how it works may also put you off too! Basically these batteries are quite good at what they do in providing the power for whatever it is that needs it.They come in AAA or AA size, it’s been claimed that a single AA NoPoPo battery can provide a flashlight with up to 20 hours of battery life, which isn’t bad at all considering that you only have to perform a very simple task to recharge these! Plus you can easily recharge them again when they run out…The rather awkward bit is how you charge it… you actually pee in it… The batteries come with a plastic eye-dropper like pipette that allows the user to inject urine into the battery chamber and that is probably why it’s not called NoPeePee, but ask no further!

Overall though, an excellent idea to be environmentally friendly and fits perfectly in being “Green”.

The idea of using urine to power batteries isn’t entirely new, it was first discovered by scientists in Singapore back in 2005. If you want to know more about how it works in science terms, visit the Gadget Lounge

The Nakabayashi product page says something different: They’re not rechargeable, you just use a liquid (preferably water, but pee works too) to activate them. The point of these batteries is that you can store them on your shelf/locker/whatever for ages and then use when you need them. And you can easily throw them away with other trash.
