Many of us often experience problems with our internet service, too slow, not working, can’t access the sites we need at the time they are most needed, etc… What do we usually do about this? Usually the average internet user ends up no knowing what is happening and restarting their system, or unplugging the internet cables and reconnecting them and indeed this is what they’ll instruct you to do if you ring your ISP’s customer services…
However popular the broadband company you are using, despite the amount of different awards they might have received from magazines and tech sites, how do you know that your broadband provider isn’t just giving you bad service and poor broadband quality? Here is now your chance to find out and campaign against the popular saying (at least popular here in the UK) “up to”, up to 2 Mb, up to 8 Mb and so on… whatever it is that you are paying for, are you actually getting what you should be getting? Read on about what you could do after the jump…
The Gadget Show on Channel Five has now put up a broadband speed meter so you can test what speeds your ISP is actually providing you, there is also a feedback form at the bottom to fill in some info from your completed test.
From The Gadget Show:
Think you’re getting a great broadband deal? Think again. With many people falling short of the “up to” speeds offered by their ISP, we’re campaigning for the truth: advertised speeds reflecting what we’re actually getting.
Join us – test your speed here and let us know what you think below. The result is an indication of your speed in kbps.
The link for the test is here, I would recommend that everyone give it a go, but those that are not from the UK may find less accurate results. While if you are from the UK, don’t do the test during peak hours because this affects your speed as well.
