The very posh Porsche Design mobile phone, the P’9521 which was announced back in June this summer has been indicated by the CarphoneWarehouse to soon be arriving later this month (November, 2007)! This post is perfect for those who doesn’t yet know much about this phone, for a start when this phone was first announced in the states it was estimated that it will cost approx. $1600! Why would it cost such a significant sum of cash? The likely answer to that is the fact that Porsche is a highly respectable brand and so will it’s branded phone. However the price does give you some good specs, major features of the P’9521 include, quadband, 3.2 megapixels camera with autofocus, flash and 4x zoom, mp3 player, fingerprint recognition…
And that’s not all, a quick tour and a video of the phone after the break!
The good: The fact that the P’9521 is a clamshell mobile phone that offers a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and 4x zoom already gives it a good headstart over many other clamshells that are on the market worldwide today. However if you’re not the type of person that’s into mobile phone digital photography, all is not lost for the P’9521. Just looking at the exterior metallic casing of this phone tells everyone a clear fact that this is not an easily affordable phone for all. The metallic body of the P’9521 is composed of aluminum and mineral glass, though this does make the phone heavier (137 g) and slightly chubbier (18 mm) than many, its rigid and all-round bold corners make it undeniably a posh, business-style phone not for the faint hearted.
I suppose one of the must mention special features of the P’9521 is its built-in fingerprint pattern recognition function, this gives the owner greater security in handling confidential documents that have been stored into the phone, another reason why we said this phone was built for business management personnels! Along with this function, finger recognition can also be used as a touch sensitive scroll interface through the user menu, making applications highly accessible.
Now for the camera, as we have already mentioned so many times, the P’9521 comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera, this is equipped with autofocus and 4x zoom. What we haven’t mentioned is its dual LED flash lights and the ability to automatically activate when the screen of the phone is flipped and spinned over 180 degrees:
Lastly, what we really like about this phone is that Porsche has integrated a similar photo accelerometer function like that of the Apple iPhone and Touch. What we mean is when viewing a photo on its screen, the photo will automatically switch from portrait to landscape view as you turn the phone in the hand 90 degrees from vertical to horizontal position.
The bad: What do we not like about this phone? There isn’t really much we can think of and generally we think Porsche has done a good job for a first phone. However we were disappointed to find that the P’9521 didn’t actually have 3G, nor did it have WiFi (which would have been great launching as a clamshell in the market at present). The pricing will also be an issue when the phone does launch in a few weeks time, at ?800, the price certainly places the P’9521 high up at the top end of mobile phone price range.
We will keep you updated of any news, what we do know at this moment is that the phone package will come with Porsche headphones and also a 2 Gb microSD memory card.
