There is now a new Firefox extension called Gspace which allows you to use your Gmail effectively as an online file storage system in addition to its incredible email service. Because it’s a Firefox extension, all you need to already have is a Gmail account, Firefox and the new extension, you won’t need any extra software or application to manage files when uploading or downloading your documents.
Gspace is really simple to use and like most Firefox extensions, takes no more than two steps to install…
After you have downloaded and installed Gspace by clicking the image above, your Firefox will be restarted. Once your Firefox pops back, its ready for first time use, click Tools then Gspace, afterwards Gspace will appear just like a new browser tab:
As you can see (click to enlarge) Gspace is laid out just like any typical FTP client with upload and download functions, the screenshot above shows the “File Transfer Mode”. Gspace has four different modes which can be switched from one to another by clicking the drop-down menu at the top. “Player Mode” and “Photo Mode” will allow you to view photos and listen to music directly from your Gmail without downloading. The last mode is the “Gmail Drive Mode” is strictly for downloading. The best part about using the Gspace, I believe, is its capacity to allow you to manage more than one Gmail account, so when you want to switch to another account just click logout and choose the login you want.
